What to Do When You Arrive
What to do when you enter the science room… Get out the following items: Science Journal Book Homework Pencil Planner!!! If you have to go to your locker to get supplies, you are unprepared. BRING YOUR SUPPLIES TO CLASS!!!

Question #2 2) I always show up to Mrs. Nell’s class with all five supplies to be successful. Name three of the five things I bring to class everyday!

Homework Make sure your homework has proper heading.
Name (First & Last) Date Section Students who do not complete their homework will need to call home and notify a parent that they were a slacker and will need to attend after school study hall with me to complete the assignment.

Late or Missing Work If you did not complete your assignment, you must call home and stay after school to complete your work that day.

Turning In Assignments
Place all composition notebooks or other assignments in here. Mark the assignment you wish me to grade.

Pencils If your pencil breaks during class…
Sharpen it quietly- do not disrupt others.

Other Materials If you need a calculator, tape, colored pencils, markers, glue stick, ruler, construction paper, or scissors for a project- they can be found in “The Cube” at the back of the classroom. Please put materials back in the Cube when you are finished with them.

Question #3 3) Where should I turn in my assignments in Mrs. Nell’s room?

Hallways All backpacks, jackets, and other materials will need to be taken home daily. These items cannot be left in the hall. Items left in the hallway will be removed from the hooks and brought to the office.

Bathroom You must have a pass to use the bathroom during class time. Students out of the classroom without a pass from a teacher will be written up. (Mrs. Nell’s pass is the plastic flask and should always be returned to the counter it is now sitting on.)

Emergency Alert Signal
If the alarm sounds… Quietly line up at the door Last person out should shut off classroom lights and shut the door Go left, down the steps, and out the emergency door by the elevator to the fence; listen for roll call

Lockdown Drill In the event of a lockdown drill… Stay calm
Lock doors and close windows Close blinds Move to designated area Stay away from windows and doors Lights off Take attendance Sit quietly and wait for an all clear

Do not consider bell system as a signal to return to school
Do not consider bell system as a signal to return to school. Evacuate to sidewalk across street away from the school. Then evacuate to evacuation zones (K-3 to St. Agnes, 4-8 to Community Church, 9-12 to hospital)

Missed Assignments If you miss an assignment due to an excused absence… Check assignment board, planner, or web Get worksheets from me Get notes from a peer

Safety in Lab Lab Safety: Everyone is Responsible!
"I didn't mean to" and "It wasn't my fault" are two statements that have no place in the lab. If someone is hurt or equipment is broken, these statements cannot undo the harm. Horse-play will not be tolerated. If it occurs, those involved will be given a zero for the assignment and will be removed from the classroom.

Accidents Can Happen If an accident occurs in the lab:
Remain calm! A minor problem quickly becomes a major one if you don't. Report all accidents immediately, no matter how small.

Chemical Spills You are to treat all chemical spills as DANGEROUS.
If a chemical spill occurs, stop where you are and the teacher will advise you about what to do.

Fire Safety Blanket The fire safety blanket is located by the windows of the lab room. Fire blankets are not the best means to extinguish a fire. They may be used to extinguish clothing that is burning, but should never be used on any other type of fire.

Fire Extinguisher The fire extinguisher is by the fire blanket in the lab. Only the teacher is authorized to use the fire extinguisher.
