1 On-Line Profiles The profiles are key documents that chart the activities and progress of a Probationer Teacher throughout the Teacher Induction Scheme (TIS). Local Authority Probation Managers will inform all stakeholders of the dates these profiles are to be submitted to The General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS).

2 Probationer Login Once the Local Authority has entered the Supporter and Headteacher details you will be able to access your online profile. Please be aware that this may not be available right at the start of term. If experiencing difficulties in the first instance contact your Local Authority Probation Manager. In the meantime keep paper copies of all Supporter Meetings and CPL details.

3 Probationer Login/Register
Go to Click on “MyGTCS Login”

4 Probationer Login Details
Access is given via a Username and Password (GTCS six digit Registration Number with no slash/dash) For the first log in Username and Password will be the same The password should be changed on the registration page only accessed the first time of login.

5 Probationer Menu Screen
This is your profiles homepage where you can access all areas of your profile.

6 Probationer Completing Profile
Sections should be submitted to your Supporter/Mentor for sign off once you are sure that it is complete and accurate. You will see “submit” buttons throughout the profile as appropriate.

7 Probationer Verify Details
You should check the details in the Personal Details section are correct. If there is a change of your Headteacher or Supporter you should notify your Local Authority Probation Manager who will change that. For a change of school you will need to contact the GTCS. If your name changes throughout the year you should contact PLD Department who will make this change for you. Alternatively you can make this change by logging into MyGTCS. You should verify the details; changes can still be made once verified

8 Probationer IPDAP The Initial Professional Development Action Plan (IPDAP) should be completed by the Probationer in collaboration with the Supporter/Mentor. The Probationer and Supporter/Mentor should discuss the Probationer’s Initial Teacher Education (ITE) profile to identify the initial focus points for professional development between the period August to December.

9 Probationer IPDAP This process of self evaluation should be used to identify targets and actions and these should be entered in the IPDAP under the appropriate professional area of the Standard for Full Registration (SFR). There must be at least one item recorded under each of the three areas of the SFR before the IPDAP can be submitted to the Supporter.

10 Probationer Timetable
The online timetable has been developed to calculate automatically the classroom contact time and will show this at the bottom of the page. If your timetable is not within the set parameters of 0.55 and 0.82 then you will be unable to submit it to your Supporter/Mentor for sign off. Once completed submit your timetable to your Supporter/Mentor

11 Probationer Timetable
Contact time until Easter should be a maximum of 0.8 The GTCS will be automatically informed if the timetable is 0.81 or more. Please refer to the Chief Executive’s letter via the following link: Once completed submit your timetable to your Supporter/Mentor

12 Probationer Timetable
This should only contain classes for which you have sole teaching responsibility. Your timetable must not exceed 0.82 (18 hours approx.) of a full time teacher’s timetable (0.8 until Easter). It must not fall below 0.55 (12 hours 23 mins).

13 Probationer Timetable Secondary
Secondary Probationers should enter their class details in the appropriate time slot on the timetable indicating the class year group and the number of minutes. If you are registered in two subjects you must still teach a minimum of 0.55 in your first subject to be eligible for full registration.

15 Probationer Timetable Primary
Primary Probationers should enter their class details in the appropriate time slot on the timetable indicating the area of the curriculum and the number of minutes. There is a note section available where you can enter specific details e.g. rotations

16 Probationer Supporter/Mentor Meetings
Probationers should meet with their Supporter/Mentor on a weekly basis. There should be approximately 12 meetings between August and December. The meeting should have an agreed agenda with no more than two focus points identified.

17 Probationer Supporter/Mentor Meetings
A full record should be kept within the Probationer's portfolio A brief outline should be entered on your online profile.

18 Probationer Supporter/Mentor Meetings
A new record should be made for each meeting between you and your Supporter/Mentor. You should record these on a weekly basis. From the Supporter Meetings page click on “Add Meeting”

19 Probationer Supporter/Mentor Meetings
Choose at least one key focus from the drop down menu and no more than two. Enter the agreed actions and additional information and then Add/Save Meeting

20 Probationer Supporter/Mentor Meetings
The majority of these weekly meetings should involve very focussed discussions concentrating on targets and actions identified in your IPDAP (and later your PDAP). Professional issues should be discussed at these meetings – not merely administration details.

21 Probationer Supporter/Mentor Meetings
Use the “Add Meeting”, “Edit” tool and “Delete” key as appropriate. Each meeting should be submitted for sign off by your Supporter each week. NB: Do not submit until you are certain that the content of the meeting is correct.

22 Probationer Observed Teaching Sessions
It is recommended that there be a three-weekly cycle which commences in August. Week one – at the weekly Supporter/Mentor meeting a time and focus should be identified. Week two – the observation should take place By the end of week three feedback should have been given.

23 Probationer Observed Teaching Sessions
Continuing with this pattern would ensure five observed teaching sessions between August and December for the completion of the Interim Profile, and a minimum of four between January and June. Further guidance is available on the website

24 Probationer Observed Teaching Sessions
From the main menu click on Record of Observed Teaching. Click on “Add Record” and then complete all sections using the drop down box for the areas of focus. Once complete Add/Save meeting. You should submit each record for your Supporter/Mentor to sign off.

25 Probationer Secondary Observed Teaching Sessions
Secondary options – click on a Key focus and then choose the appropriate class and level of study. Then complete the details in the Strengths and Areas for Development sections.

26 Probationer Primary Observed Teaching Sessions
Primary options – click on a Key focus and then choose the appropriate class and Curricular Area. Then complete the details in the Strengths and Areas for Development sections.

Example below of how to complete a Secondary Observed Teaching Session on the profile; the Primary is very similar

28 Probationer Observed Teaching Sessions
The Observed Teaching Sessions will be listed on your profile. You should submit each one to your Supporter/Mentor once you are sure it is correct ; once submitted you can view it but can’t edit it. Submit this Observed Teaching Session to your Supporter/Mentor to sign off by clicking on Submit for Sign-off

29 Probationer CPL Record
From the main menu select CPL Record, then click on “add record” and complete the form using the drop down box to identify the areas of focus. Add/Save on completion. At the end of term you should submit this section to your Supporter/Mentor for sign off.

30 Probationer CPL Record
CPL is recorded against the three Professional Areas of the SFR Professional Values and Personal Commitment, Professional Knowledge and Understanding and Professional Skills and Abilities. Below is a sample of entries under one of the headings

31 Probationer CPL Record
There must be a minimum of two entries within each of the three Professional areas before you will be able to submit the CPL section to your Supporter/Mentor at the end of term. Under Local Authority record central CPL activities which have been arranged by your Local Authority Probation Manager and count as core CPL. These may be during the school day or you may be told by the Local Authority Probation Manager to attend twilight sessions. NB: Any CPL provided by the LA but which you attend voluntarily should be recorded under personal CPL

32 Probationer CPL Record
Under School record the many experiences undertaken both as your responsibility as a teacher and as identified as a result of your targets from your IPDAP Under Personal record activities undertaken at a time and a place of your own choosing. This is the same as the nationally agreed CPL for all teachers. The activities undertaken in this section should be designed to meet your targets from your IPDAP or areas of your particular interest.

33 Probationer - Key Strengths & Areas for Development
This section should be completed by your Headteacher and/or Supporter/Mentor. You should view and act upon these comments in your future practice, and they will form the starting point for you to complete your PDAP with your Supporter/Mentor.

34 Probationer - PDAP The Professional Development Action Plan (PDAP) should be completed in the same way as your IPDAP using the information from the Key Strengths & Areas for Development instead of the ITE profile. The self evaluation template could be used at this stage in discussions with your Supporter/Mentor.

35 Probationer - PDAP All targets and actions should be SMART
Specific stating clearly what has to be done Measurable - quantitative/qualitative or both Achievable - within the individual’s capabilities & resources available Relevant to the individual/department/school Timebound - achievable within a specific agreed timescale.

36 Probationer - PDAP As for your IPDAP there should be at least one entry within each of the three Professional Areas of the SFR. Please ensure that the dates identified are realistic and fall within the dates of your next profile. The details from your PDAP will be transferred automatically to the IPDAP section of your next profile as a starting point for that term.

37 Probationer Final Stages
Once your profile has been fully completed and all sections are “signed off” apart from the personal details which are “verified” you will see a green arrow appears at the top left of the main profile page. You should click on this arrow to submit your completed profile to the Supporter/Mentor.

38 Probationer Final Stages
Your Supporter/Mentor will make the proposed recommendation (progress Satisfactory, Cause for Concern or Unsatisfactory) and then your Headteacher will read your profile and confirm the recommendation (or not) after discussion with your Supporter/Mentor. You will receive a confirmation advising you what recommendation has been made. NB: Please ensure your details are correct on your MyGTCS account.

39 Probationer Final Stages
The profile will then be available for your Local Authority Probation Manager to submit to the GTCS Once this has been done your next profile will become available on line for you to start completing. For those whose progress has been recommended as Satisfactory, this will be a Final Profile. For those whose progress has been identified as Cause for Concern or Unsatisfactory, a second Interim Profile should be completed for submission to the GTCS prior to the Easter break.

40 Probationer Interim 1 Profile
Should contain a minimum of: 1 entry in each IPDAP area 12 Supporter/Mentor Meetings 5 Observed Teaching Sessions 2 entries in each of the 3 CPL areas 1 entry in each PDAP area

41 Probationer Interim 2 Profile
If your progress was identified as Cause for Concern or Unsatisfactory at the Interim Profile stage, or if subsequently your Supporter/Mentor/Headteacher raises concerns about your progress following a Satisfactory recommendation at December you will have an Interim 2 Profile to complete.

42 Probationer – Next Profile
Once your Interim Profile has been submitted to the GTCS your next profile becomes available. Your timetable will carry over from the previous profile and will be at a status “Signed Off” as we would not expect changes to the timetable part way through the year. If however you do need to make changes you should contact requesting that your timetable be unlocked. Any changes to your timetable after Easter can be noted in paper form and retained for your own records.

43 Probationer – Next Profile
The PDAP from your previous profile will be in the IPDAP section and this too will be “Signed off” as there should not be any changes made to this. All other areas should be completed as before with details of meetings/observations/cpl etc undertaken only during the period that this profile reflects.

44 Probationer – Next Profile Interim 2 (if required)
An Interim 2 Profile covers a shorter period from January to the end of March. Following the pattern of a weekly Supporter/Mentor meeting there should be approximately ten meetings to record. Following the pattern of the Observation three-weekly cycle there should be approximately three observed teaching sessions to record.

45 Probationer – Next Profile Interim 2 (if required)
CPL should be recorded for the period that this profile covers, ensuring that there is the minimum requirement of at least two entries within each of the three professional areas.

46 Probationer Final Profile Following Interim 2
Following the pattern of a weekly Supporter/Mentor meeting there should be approximately six meetings to record. Following the pattern of the Observation three-weekly cycle there should be approximately two observed teaching sessions to record. You will have to complete the same minimum requirement for CPL

47 Probationer Final Profile January - June
If you had a satisfactory recommendation on your Interim Profile you will have a Final Profile to complete. You should complete all sections with information only from January to June.

48 Probationer Final Profile January - June
Following the pattern of a weekly Supporter/Mentor meeting there should be approximately 16 meetings to record. There should be a minimum of four observed teaching sessions to record. There must be a minimum of two entries within each of the three areas in CPL record.

49 Probationer Final Profile
For the final profile the Headteacher will make a recommendation for Full Registration Extension Health Competence Cancellation Full details of the appeals procedure would be sent to you if appropriate. Details from the Final Profile will transfer as before to the Extension Profile if applicable.
