1 Jesus The Prince Of Peace

2 Messiah as “Prince Of Peace”
Isaiah 9:6 -- For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; and the government will rest on His shoulders; and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

3 How Is Jesus The Prince of Peace?
It’s been almost 2,000 years since the church was established in the name of Christ. Can we say the world is at peace? In what way is Jesus to be considered the Prince of Peace?

4 Examining The Prophecy
Was a prophecy of the coming of the Messiah. Many titles and assertions were attached to the prophecy indicating the origins of the Messiah. Prince of Peace is one of those titles – dependent on the others.

5 Who Were They To Expect? One who would support the GOVERNMENT on His shoulders. Not just “A” government, but rather “THE” government. He was to be ruler over all of the world.

6 Wonderful Counselor Wonderful = PELE – wondrous, miraculous, amazing
Counselor = YAWATS – guide, counsel, advise, direct, lead His guidance and rule was to be marked by miraculous brilliance and perfect counsel

7 Mighty God His name is Mighty God. What an amazing revelation to the ancient Hebrews of the origin of their coming Messiah. How could they miss it when He came? John 1 insists Almighty God the Word became flesh in the person of Jesus the Christ.

8 Eternal Father Again, what an amazing identification of the coming Messiah. He was to be none other than Eternal God. The Father, anointed by God to become the Son, dwelling on the earth for a period of time. Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega – Eternal Father. a w

9 Prince Of Peace Hebrew is SHALOM Greek is EIRENE
Indication is far greater than “everybody getting along with one another on the face of the Earth.”

10 Concentrate on Jesus as Eternal Father
Psalm 29:10-11 – “The Lord sat as King at the flood; yes, the Lord sits as King forever. The Lord will give strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace.” This peace comes because Christ is King and gives peace as a blessing.

11 Isaiah 45:7 “The One forming light and creating darkness, causing well-being and creating calamity; I am the Lord who does all these.” The same Lord who is Prince of Peace is also King of Calamity for those who are His enemies. Gives us a clue to the nature of God’s peace.

12 What Peace Is This? Peace greater than that found in the world.
John 14:27 – “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.” Spoken just prior to His arrest and crucifixion.

13 Matthew 10:34 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.” Peace on earth and good will to all men will never be a total reality on this earth. Not so long as there are those who remain enemies of God.

14 Understanding The World As Kingdom
John 16:33 – “These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” By overcoming the world, Christ has made it subject to Himself. It is added to His kingdom. We can take courage as His subjects even when facing tribulation. That brings to us a great sense of peace.

15 Peace In Christ Philippians 4:6-7 – “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Guarded hearts are peace-filled hearts!

16 Bringing Peace In The World
Ephesians 4: “Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Worthy walks include diligence in preserving peace in the Holy Spirit of God.

17 So Peace Spreads In The World
Hebrews 12:14 – “Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord.” Romans 12:18 – “If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.”

18 Peace With God: The Greatest Peace
Primarily, Jesus is the Prince of Eternal Peace – that which is spiritual in nature. Romans 5:8-10 – “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.”

19 Romans 5:1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ….” Galatians 5:22-23 – “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”

20 Peace Through Covenant With God
Hebrews 13:20-21 – “Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord, equip you in every good thing to do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.”
