Jesus Uses Tough Love Everybody who believes in Jesus believes in His love. Gal. 2:20 – He loved us and gave Himself for us Eph. 5:2 – His offering for us went up to as a sweet-smelling aroma

Jesus Uses Tough Love Jesus Himself puts a condition on His love.
John 14:21 – he who has and keeps the commands of Jesus will be loved by Him There is a general love that Jesus has for mankind and a specific love He has for His followers.

Jesus Uses Tough Love Jesus spoke about His love and the love of God extensively. John 14:15-24 – Jesus speaks about His love, the love of the Father and man’s love for God John 15:9-17 – Jesus teaches on His love, the Father’s love and the love we ought to have for one another

Jesus Uses Tough Love Jesus also spoke very bluntly about the people’s lack of love for God. John 5:36-47 – Jesus points out that His witness is the Father and that the Father bore witness of Jesus in the scripture

Jesus Uses Tough Love What would Jesus say today? If Jesus were here today and saw the religious landscape of the world what would He say about the people’s love of God?

Jesus Uses Tough Love What is the love of God?
1 John 5:1-5 – John reminds us that the faith we have is contingent on our love of God, and that is determined by our obedience to His commands 1 John 2:3-6 – our walk reflects our love of God and our knowing Him

Jesus Uses Tough Love If we truly love God we will know Him. We have read that to know God is to obey Him. We are told that to love God is to obey Him.

Jesus Uses Tough Love 1 Cor. 8:3 – if we love God we will be known by God So we can see that our love of God and our knowing God are related and demonstrated by our obedience to His commands. When this happens we can have confidence that God know us.

Jesus Uses Tough Love Matt. 7:23 – God knows those who are not His How does a religious man come to this state? John 5:42 – the love of God is not in him When man hears God’s word but does not obey it he does not have the love of God and he will not be known by God.

“But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you.” John 5:42 Where does that leave you?
