4 Laboratory Safety Rules
Always follow the teacher’s directions and only do lab work when a teacher is present. Conduct yourself in a responsible manner at all times. Do not eat food, drink beverages, or chew gum in the lab.

5 Laboratory Safety Rules
Before starting any lab, Remove all of your jewelry and watches. Report ALL accidents and injuries to your teacher immediately!!!

6 Laboratory Safety Rules
Lab coat Lab coats (with sleeves rolled down and all buttons- buttoned) must be worn. Lab coats protect your regular clothing from dirt and non- obvious contamination in the lab. Lab coats protect your skin from spills and splashes that occur in the laboratory.

Gloves Wear the correct gloves when needed. Vinyl Gloves Vinyl gloves are a popular choice for the food industry. Are good for short-term, low-risk tasks. Latex (natural rubber) Good for biological and water-based materials. Poor for organic solvents. Little chemical protection. Can cause or trigger latex allergies Nitrile Excellent general use glove. Good for solvents, oils, greases, and some acids and bases. Clear indication of tears and breaks.

Gloves Wash hands once gloves have been removed. Disposable gloves must be discarded once removed. Remove gloves before touching personal items, such as phones, computers, pens and one’s skin.

9 Laboratory Safety Rules
Masks Masks should be used in order to avoid exposure to dust and liquid particles which is composed of solid or liquid chemicals. Mask as is handy use and compatible with the skin, different types of filter masks are also available depending on the chemicals used.

10 Laboratory Safety Rules
Closed toe shoes Only closed topped and closed toe shoes must be worn when working in the laboratory. If you look down and see a swath of skin showing, your shoes are not appropriate. Shoes should fully cover the top of ones feet. Shoes with holes (Crocs) or mesh are not allowed. Students without proper footwear will be asked to leave the lab.

Hair cover 1- When doing any experiment make sure that your hair is pulled back away from your face.

12 Laboratory Safety Rules
Goggles Never use any source of fire without wearing safety goggles. Always maintain a clean work area, particularly when using a flame. Example: No papers, books, or backpacks on the desk.

Hazardous chemicals 2- If ANY chemicals, particularly acids, get on your skin or clothes, rinse the area with water, IMMEDIATELY! Then notify your teacher. 3- Never smell any chemical directly from it’s container. 4- Keep all lids closed when chemicals are not in use. 5- Never touch or taste any chemical.

Hazardous chemicals 6- When you are heating a test tube or bottle, always point it away from you and others. 7- Dispose of all chemicals as instructed by your teacher. 8- Glassware can easily be broken.

22 Laboratory Safety Rules
1. Always maintain a clean work area. 2. Always clean glassware thoroughly before putting it away. 3. If you continuously disregard safety rules and practices, your instructor cannot allow you to remain in the laboratory since you will be a danger to yourself and others.
