3 In Christian countries Easter is celebrated as the religious holiday commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the son of God.

4 The date of Easter Easter is a festival that occurs the first Sunday after the first full moon in spring (March 22 and April 25). Easter marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring.

5 What does “Easter” mean?
The name “Easter” comes from the ‘Eastre”, mythology Goddess of spring and fertility.

6 The celebrations of Easter have many customs and legends that are pagan in origin.

7 What Easter symbols do you know?

8 Sunrise services Sunrise services are held on Easter morning all around the world. They remind us that after darkness comes the light of day and hope for the future.

9 The cross To Christians, the cross is the symbol of the true meaning of Easter, Christ’s resurrection and his triumph over death. It also reminds us of Christ’s suffering for each of us. It also reminds us of His love for us.

10 The crown The crown of thorns is a symbol of Jesus’ suffering and His willingness to accept the pain and anguish for the sake of all.

11 The Palm branches The Palms symbolize Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday amidst the crowds waving palm branches, symbols of victory. Palms also symbolize eternal life.

12 The cup and the bread The cup and the bread remind us the Last Supper and Christ’s body broken for us. It also reminds us of the call to love one another as He loved us.

13 The lily The lily is a special Easter flower. The bulb stands for the tomb; the blossom for His life after death. The white blossoms symbolize the purity of Jesus.

14 The Butterfly The Butterfly is one of the significant symbols of Easter. It comes to new life only after a “death”.

15 The lamb The lamb represents Jesus.
It is good luck to see a lamb on Easter.

16 Easter eggs & baby chicks
The new life is a symbol of God’s power. A chick breaking free from the eggshell is one of the wonders of God’s creation! The shell is also a symbol of the rock tomb out of which Christ emerged.

17 Pretty decorated eggs at Easter have been popular for a long time.
Eggs are the special treat on Easter day and they are given as gifts.

18 Easter bunny Easter rabbit is a symbol of a new life and birth.
All around the world children believe that the Easter rabbit brings eggs and hides them on Easter morning.

19 Hot Cross Buns Hot cross buns have a cross of icing on the top to remind people of Christ.

20 The Easter Parade People buy new clothes to wear on Easter Sunday.There is a popular tradition to wear three new things at Easter. They believe these will bring good luck in the year. They go out into the streets. This procession is called The Easter Parade.

21 EASTER HUNT Children like Easter very much because it is a tasty holiday. All the families colour eggs and put them into green, yellow and pink baskets. Next morning children are busy with hunting eggs, jelly beans and chocolate bunnies. They play funny games such as egg rolling contest and sing Easter songs.

22 EASTER ROLL Easter Roll is a tradition of rolling eggs down grassy hills. Children push an egg with a long handled spoon. The old Lancashire legend says that the broken eggshells should be carefully crashed afterwards or they would be stolen by witches.

23 Easter wishers Because you’re very special,
