Counseling Office The most efficient way to contact your student’s counselor is to send an with your questions. This way we have the opportunity to research and provide the answer you are seeking. If an appointment is needed, please send your student’s counselor an or call them to schedule. Counseling Office Hours Counseling Office is open daily from 7:30am - 4:00pm Student Drop in times: Before School At Lunch After School Students may sign up for an individual appointment

Folsom High School Graduation Requirements
Subject Years/Number of Credits Required English 4 years – 40 credits Fine Art, World Language or CTE (Career Technical Education) 1 year – 10 credits World Cultures U.S. History Government 1 semester – 5 credits Economics Integrated Math 1 (Algebra) and Integrated Math 2 (Geometry) 2 years– 20 credits Mathematics Science 2 years – 20 credits Career Technical Education (CTE) or 3rd Year of Science Health Education 1 semester - 5 credits Physical Education Electives 55 credits TOTAL 220 credits

Four-Year College Admission Requirements
UC / CSU a-g Requirements (College Prep Courses) a. History/Social Science 2 Years Required b. English 4 Years Required c. Mathematics 3 Years Required / 4 Years Recommended Including IM1 (Algebra 1), IM2 (Geometry), and IM3 (Algebra 2) d. Laboratory Science 2 Years Required / 3 Years Recommended Chosen from Biology, Chemistry, Physics e. Language other than English 2 Years Required / 3 Years Recommended Must be the same language f. Visual & Performing Arts 1 Year Required g. College Preparatory Electives 1 Year Required Chosen from approved UC “a-g” course list Remember: The SAT or ACT plus Writing is also required for most colleges. NCAA Requirements There are very specific requirements for college athletes. It is your responsibility to make sure that you are eligible for Divisions I, II, or III. NCAA requirements are posted on the school website. You may be CSU/UC Eligible and not qualified for NCAA. Be aware that online courses may not meet NCAA eligibility requirements.

How to earn credit for a course if I cannot fit it into my schedule?
Zero Period Classes (Limited Options) Summer School (Remedial/Enrichment - prior counselor approval required) School Approved Online Courses Independent Study P.E. (for Nationally Ranked student athletes) Community College Classes (Limited space, must be a course FHS does not offer, students must be 16 or older with 2.75 GPA, requires counselor approval) Only courses required for graduation with prior counselor/admin approval will be placed on FHS transcript.

Summer School Remedial Summer School: Can only repeat course if earned a D or F. VS Enrichment Summer School: Courses you have never taken before. Student MUST demonstrate an “impacted schedule” by turning in a completed 4 year plan All courses must be approved by your counselor. Summer School Schedule: June 5th - June 30th at Cordova High School (8:00am-2:30pm)

Advanced Placement/Honors Selection
It is highly recommended that a student’s GPA is a 3.0 or higher GPA for AP/Honors courses. AP/Honors courses are open to all students who meet the prerequisites. Select only AP/Honors courses you really want on registration form. All students enrolled in AP/Honors courses will be required to complete a contract. You will not be able to request a schedule change once you have signed and submitted your contract. Summer work may be required - visit FHS website: For Students, Advanced Placement.

Current Grade As Incoming Presentation Date Online Course Registration Opens Online Course Registration Deadline Student/Counselor Meetings 11th Seniors January 25 PAWS February 2 February 7 February 1 and 2 February 8 and 9 10th Juniors February 8 February 9 February 14 February 15 and 16 February 22 and 23 9th Sophomore February 22 February 23 February 28 March 1 and 2 March 8 and 9 8th Freshman SMS - March 7 March 8 March 13 SMS - March 15 and 16 FMS - March 14 Enrollment for the following students: Students will receive packets which include course registration and enrollment instructions prior to their presentation. Approved School Choice Request notifications will be sent out with instructions on how to complete the registration process mid March. New Students to FHS who either live within FHS boundaries or have recently moved here and did not attend an FCUSD school during 2016/2017, enrollment packets can be picked up from our Counseling Office starting on March 20, 2017 between the hours of 8am - 3:30pm.

Student Request Form/ Schedule Changes
District Policy: A student who drops a course after the first two weeks of the semester shall receive an F grade on his/her permanent record. (cf Student Records)

Schedule Distribution
Students will be able to access their schedule through PowerSchool the week before school starts. If there is an error with your schedule, you must inform your counselor so the error can be corrected. All schedule changes will be completed the week before school starts. Courses will be selected for the ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR and in most cases, schedule changes are not permitted after school starts.

Student Athletes: Division I NCAA Requirements • Complete 16 core courses, including 10 completed before senior year • Earn SAT or ACT score that maps to your GPA on the sliding scale • Earn a minimum 2.3 GPA in core courses to compete freshman year in college See to determine eligible FHS core courses

Non-college prep classes in a specific area Online courses - either for credit or not for credit Reading books and articles Summer programs Internships/Employment Community Service Performances Ted Talks, NPR, exposing your mind to other avenues of learning Cultural activities/Religious or church involvment Participating in fairs and competitions DO NOT LIMIT YOURSELF! BE ORIGINIAL!
