160,000 downtown Employees, 40,000 Residents
4 years of freeway construction projects 160,000 downtown Employees, 40,000 Residents Mission: Connect Employers, Commuters & Residents with our Transportation Partners Outreach and Education on Sustainable Options to improve commutes & reduce traffic congestion 4 years of freeway construction is going to impact a lot of people! Currently - Almost 40% of commuters use Transit or Carpooling! Bike commuting increased to 5 percent in Minneapolis, according to the American Community Survey. With the construction PAIN factor , Move Minneapolis is targeting the other 55% who will be more eager for OPTIONS!

Transit – Park & Ride, Express Lanes & Shoulders, Metropass
Carpooling – Express Lanes, Discounted Parking, Sharing Costs MNPASS – Pay By Usage, Express Lanes Bicycle Commuting – Expanding Bike Infrastructure & Facilities, Mpls Bicycle Coalition, Nice Ride, ZAP Twin Cities Flextime/Telework – Tool Kit Transit has a big advantage over SOV’s. Buses use Express Lanes and freeway shoulders. The Northstar commuter rail follows the same path as I-94 into downtown. The Blue Line parallels I-35W into Mpls. We are working with more employers to expand the Metropass program for their employees. Offering pre-tax, payroll deduction for a transit pass, AND many employers add a subsidy. We register carpools at Move Minneapolis. Carpoolers use the Express Lane and discounted parking for as little as $20 per month. For getting from the ramp to your office - Carpoolers are even being offered FREE Ramp & Ride downtown transit cards AND Nice Ride memberships! We register MNPASS users with flexible transponders. Pay when you ride alone but use the Express Lane for FREE with a passenger. Commuting downtown by bicycle is getting easier with each added bike lane or protected bikeway. Bike rooms for employees are becoming standard; Xcel Energy, 5th Street Towers, Wells Fargo are just a few of the new employee bike facilities. ZAP Twin Cities is a growing bike commuting incentive program that uses RFID technology to capture metrics, boost health and wellness programs and reward individual riders for biking to work. Finally, Telework eliminates the commute altogether. Working with employers on ways for their employees can get the job done without having to come into the office.
