8. Current Issues: Prompt Remediation- Background
In 2012, the Commission directed Staff to evaluate the pros and cons of a rulemaking.
A Prompt Remediation Rule would mandate remediation during operations and would be an extension of the Decommissioning Planning Rule (DPR) that requires licensee to survey to identify contamination throughout the site prior to permanent shutdown.
In 2013, the Commission directed the staff to gather two years of data from implementation of the DPR and evaluate whether a rule is needed.
