Good evening. Thank you for joining me tonight. My name is Deni Taveras, I am the District 2 representative on the Prince George’s County Council. 2 Community and Economic Development
Prince George’s Plaza Transit District Development Plan Innovative Density Program Gateway Arts District Northern Gateway to Prince George’s County Building the “Welcome Sign” and Blight Removal Celebrating Historical and Cultural Landmarks Fostering Identity, Connectivity, and Inter-generational Public Spaces In District 2, there is a lot of opportunity and progress that has been made, including in the following areas: Prince George’s Plaza, which incudes the Transit District Development Plan and an Innovative Density Program Gateway Arts District, which has used the art designation to generate a positive economic impact and build a stronger community identity However, we are here this morning to focus on the Northern Gateway: Northern Gateway includes the areas of Adelphi, Avondale, Brookside Manor, Carole Highlands, Chillum Manor, Chillum, Green Meadows, Langley Park, Lewisdale, and University Garden. While we are the entryway into the County, we need to work on: Building the “Welcome Sign” and Blight Removal Celebrating Our Historical and Cultural Landmarks, and Fostering a Shared Identity, Connectivity, and Multi-Generational Public Spaces

Connecting Communities Improving the Formal Economy Enhancing Government Services Strengthening Families, Children, and Residents Connecting Communities: Building relationships across county agencies, businesses, non-profit organizations, churches, and residents to facilitate collaborative revitalization efforts Improving the Formal Economy: Supporting local businesses to increase job opportunity, household incomes, and the tax base Enhancing Government Services: Connecting communities and improving the economy to decrease costs and increase revenues for enhanced public services Strengthening Families: Community and economic development with better government services to support stronger and healthier families, children, and residents

Public-Private Partnerships Yet the private sector cannot do it alone and so we really have to foster: Public-Private Partnerships

10 County Investments: Infrastructure, Green Spaces & Safety
Street Lights and Traffic Signals: $6.8 Million Curb, Road, and Pedestrian Safety Improvements: $21 Million Green Street Improvements and Enhanced Trails: $7.5 Million Parklawn Feasibility Study: $50,000 Infrastructure is also a priority area an we were able to add funds in several critical areas. A few examples include: Street Lights and Traffic Signals: $6.8 Million Curb, Road, and Pedestrian Safety Improvements: $21 Million Green Street Improvements and Enhanced Trails: $7.5 Million Cross-jurisdiction Projects: $250,000

11 Transportation Projects
Purple Line Bikeshare Feasibility Study Takoma Park/Langley Park Transit Center A critical part of the future for community and economic development is transportation and access. So I am also focused on ensuring that these projects move forward and that we revitalize our transit areas.

12 Connecting Communities
But none of this can happen without active residents as partners, and so we have done a lot of work in community engagement as well.

13 Cleaning-Up Communities and Improving Quality of Life
New Litter Program: $2 Million Aid to Seniors for Snow and Litter Removal: $80,000 More Efficient Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement (DPIE): $1.35 Million It is also so important that we invest in cleaner communities and improving the quality of life in Prince George’s County. Here are a few of the initiatives that the council was able to successfully push: New Litter Program: $2 Million Aid to Seniors for Snow and Litter Removal: $80,000 More Efficient Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement (DPIE): $1.35 Million
