2 Student Expectations A. Assignment Book
*Each child will be given an assignment book. They are expected to stay organized and record their assignments daily. B. Weekly Mail Folders *Contain work from the previous week as well as important forms that may need to return to school, such as permission slips. C. Behavior * All students are expected to follow all school rules to ensure that all class members are safe and happy! :) Practice kindness, Always show respect, Challenge myself, and Keep it safe! D. Technology * Acceptable Use Policy, for you and your child to review and sign. 2

4 Homework Policy Homework Policy
The district guidelines for homework are in the student handbook; you can expect no more than 50 minutes of homework per night in 5th grade. However, if longer term projects are put off until the night before they are due - your child will probably have to spend more than an hour on them. (Homework will rarely be assigned over weekends...unless it is a long term project) Almost all assignments are started in class so children understand how to complete the assignment. All assignments are recorded together. 4

5 Your child should be bringing the assignment book home every day and I encourage you to insist upon seeing it to reinforce the importance of staying organized. It is also reasonable to ask to see all of your child’s work before they turn it in, even finished work. Kids will be expected to use an assignment book in sixth grade and we are working hard to make the transition to middle school as smooth as possible.  The book should have entries in it every week except during holidays, and testing in the spring. If you do not see things written in the book please be in touch. 5

6 In addition to any homework assigned in school, I encourage your child to read minutes every day. Did you Know: Reading just 30 minutes a day 5 times a week is the equivalent of 15 extra school days a year!

Check weekly folders for work. (Not all assignments will be given back to students, as some are needed for record keeping purposes) Assessment data Contact me with questions and concerns. I will be in touch if there is an issue with progress or keeping up with assignments.

10 Are We Regrouping for Math?
Yes, we are hoping to start our flexible groupings on September 11th As the grouping is flexible, we will continue to collect data and assess our students throughout the year. If we need to move your child to another room, you will be notified of the move ahead of time.

11 Field Trips Fifth Grade will participate in a few field trips throughout the school year- yet to be determined. All volunteers are appreciated.
