To be broke – to be without money
Lend to – give money (lend/lent/lent) Borrow from – take money from someone e.g. Could you lend me some money? Could I borrow some money from you?

Debt /det/ – money you owe.
To be in debt to someone. I'm in debt to Maria. To run up a debt (to increase a dept). I ran up huge debts. To pay off a debt (to return all the money). Martin has to pay his debts off in July.

What's the difference between a bill and a receipt?
A bill is a document which says how much money should be paid for the service or product. Could we have the bill, please? (in a restaurant) electricity/gas/phone bill A receipt /risi:t/ is a document which proves you have already paid for something. I always keep the receipts from the supermarket.

What's the difference: ATM/cash machine/cash point?
Cash machine/cash point is common in Britain. I will go to the nearest cash point. ATM (automated teller machine) is common in the USA. Is there an ATM near here?
