1 Ch. 3 Solving Linear Equations
Objective 4 Solve problems that can be represented as equations

2 Introduction… What is a Triangle? (sides, angles, degrees)
What are the different types of Triangles? set; finite; infinite

3 Triangles - sides

4 Triangles - angles

5 Vocabulary _Triangle_ = The plane figure formed by connecting three points not in a straight line by straight line segments. - has three sides - has 3 angles (always add up to 1800) set; finite; infinite

6  Word Problem  If two angles of a triangle add up to 1300, what is the measure of the third angle? x = 180

7  Word Problem  A triangle has two angles with the measure of 150 and 900. What is the measure of the third angle? x = 180

8  Word Problem  An obtuse triangle is also isosceles. If the obtuse angle measure 1200, what is the measure of the two other angles? x = 1800

9 Writing and Solving Number Theory Sentences…
Set of integers {… -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, …} If n represents one of these integers, how would you express the next sequential integer? n + 1

10 Writing and Solving Number Theory Sentences…
If n represents an integer, what is an expression for any even integer? 2n If n represents an integer, what is an expression for any odd integer? 2n + 1

11 Writing and Solving Number Theory Sentences…
Write the set of four consecutive integers if the first one is n. n, n+1, n+2, n+3

12 Writing and Solving Number Theory Sentences…
How would you write the set of three consecutive even integers if n is even? n, n+2, n+4 How would you write the set of three consecutive odd integers if n is odd? n, n+2, n+4,

13  Word Problem  Find three consecutive integers whose sum is 27. n + (n+1) + (n+2) = 27

14  Word Problem  Find four consecutive odd integers whose sum is -8. n + (n+2) + (n+4) + (n+6) = -8

15  Word Problem  The sum of twice a number and 32 is 78. What is that number? 2x + 32 = 78

16  Word Problem  Find a number whose product with 9 is the same as its sum with 56. 9n = n + 56

17  Word Problem  Two odd integers differ by 4 and their sum is 226. What are the integers? n + (n + 4) = 226
