Mary Rowlandson: A History
Born in 1637 Settled in Salem at the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Captured by Native Americans and held for 11 weeks during King Philip’s War. She has very distinct feelings about the Native Americans. Her best known work is titled A Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs. Mary Rowlandson.

Running theme: captivity narrative. Faith in God. Difference between savagery and civilization.

Typology Typology is the use of Biblical symbols in literature.
Rowlandson’s work is a type of typology literature. Her narrative uses this with her constant belief that God will save her.
