2 Our agenda Developing programming without in-house expertise
Role of Supervision Integrating SEd into ACE services Role of CoP Discuss training initiative

3 How did you start/REFINE your current program?
How did you train your staff? How did you roll out initiatives? How did you oversee initiatives/changes/quality assurance?

4 SEd Training Initiative
10-12 month training schedule collapsed to 4 months 10 sessions plus intro & supervisors meeting High intensity Information paired with skill development Little time for in-course practice Little practice done outside of course Philosophical, theory, and service-oriented information Absence of technical assistance Application of theory to practice Service provider training Not a train-the-trainer series Implications for programmatic roll-out

5 What are the Barriers to Implementation for ACE Programs?
Real Differences Between Recovery Centers & ACE

6 Differences in ACE & RCs
Recovery Centers are making the full transition to SEd programming Receipt of long-term (?) technical assistance ACE will (may) be able to bill Medicaid for services Unclear about how many folks will be HARP eligible Types of education supported by different programs TASC vs postsecondary pursuits Role of TASC Keeps skills/knowledge from atrophying Supporting TASC in ACE Current discussions about TACE service billing/contractual agreements Developing referral system between ACE & SEd programs Asking 5 year employment goal/dream job at intake

7 How do you folks provide supervision?
Critical to any new initiative Provides direction Bi-directional learning Quality assurance The key element to developing high quality services Support Encouragement Course correction Role in remediating ineffective staff How do you folks provide supervision?

8 Developing Expertise Creating practice opportunities
Low risk, constructive feedback Do not wait to use practice skills Lack of use= waste of time Record work with people Helps both the direct line staff and the supervisor Supervisors need to make the time to invest in staff Supervisors need to develop skills too… How will you develop the necessary knowledge to be helpful to your staff?

9 How can we support you, support your program?
Role of Community of Practice? Role of Technical Assistance?

10 Feedback from Training Initiative
How has it been going? Is the information making its way back to your other program staff? What is/has been/will be your plan for getting the information to your larger programs? What are the issues with translating training content to knowledge and practice?
