Calculator A graphing calculator is used throughout all high school math classes, starting with Algebra 1. Recommended models: TI 84+ or TI 84 CE Please turn in your TI points on the back of the package.

Physics - Newton’s laws, force, & motion
8th Grade Science Throughout the school year, we will be investigating by inquiry and learning by modeling. We will also focus on the nature and history of science, including famous scientists, careers in science and technology, and the societal impact of science. Quarter Two Chemistry - Physical and Chemical Properties of Matter *Science Fair Projects will be due in December just before winter break. Quarter Four Health - Healthy choices, risk factors, illness & health care, 1st Aid Quarter One Physics - Newton’s laws, force, & motion Quarter Three Life Science - Human impact on environments, diversity, adaptation, and behavior, reproduction & heredity

Communication Checking Grades Online
Infinite Campus portal is available via our SJHS webpage and can be added as an app for your phone. Students ID#s and a generic passcode will begin the process. WEBSITE Visit Santan’s website online to access general information and Infinite Campus for assignments and test dates for each class. AGENDA Every student has an agenda that has both the school rules and daily calendars Each teacher writes classwork and homework on the board to be copied to the student’s agenda Parent signatures are required on agendas every Thursday night along with a grade check using Infinite Campus.

Make-up Work Students are responsible for obtaining make up work and instructions before or after school. They should see the teacher to make arrangements. Typically, students will be given the same number of days to complete that they missed, unless it is a prearranged trip. Worked should be gathered in advance, if it is available, such as field trip absences. Tutoring is available to aid in test retakes and completion of missing work. Math is daily at 8:45. MWF at 8:15 per the schedule.

Grading Policy In our School Community, our focus is on student learning and achievement. At Santan Junior High School, A student's grade should communicate academic achievement: what the student knows and is able to do as measured against the learning standards of the course. Extra credit will not be offered upon request. Assignments must be completed to accurately assess what a student knows and is able to do so that appropriate feedback can be given to every student. Penalties are issued on late work, at teacher discretion. SJHS Grading Scale: A: 100% - 90% B: 89% - 80% C: 79% - 70% D: 69% - 60% F: Below 60%

Zap the Zeros Santan Junior High has a “Zeroes Aren’t Productive” (ZAP) policy. Assignments are given due dates so that teachers can provide feedback in a timely manner and learning will progress. Students are expected to meet deadlines and to contact the teacher when possible in advance to discuss any issues with due dates. In general, however, students who fail to complete assignments on due dates will: Communicate with the teacher regarding their situation and needs for the missing work. Be expected to complete the assignment, Receive an "M" (for Missing) in the Infinite Campus grade book. This means that it will be averaged as a "0" until the assignment is submitted (IC notifications will be sent reminding parents and students of the missing assignment), May receive a reduced grade for the completed work received late. End of the semester incentives will be given for good work habits and behavior.
