1 Introduction to Robotics for YOU!
Goal setting & mission Introduction to Robotics for YOU!

2 1 3 2 Objectives for session Mission Personal goal setting
Robotics – what is it? This presentation will ease you into the world of robotics

3 1 Mission What is our main goal for the robotics team?

4 Mission. MISSION MISSION Mission statements matter because:
Clarity of goals is needed for organizations to be healthy (Lencioni, 2012) The robotics team strives to be a healthy organization We want a mission statement that matters, meaning that the individuals within this organization have goals that support our mission

5 More on mission Mission: The goal of our robotics team is to be a positive, professional environment where robotics can thrive. Learning robotics is important, but not as important as promoting teamwork and professionalism. We will build individual goals so that you know exactly how you are helping to support our mission.

6 Collaboration Fear not. We will work together to build personal goals. It will take more than one attempt to get it right, but the hard work is well worth it! Successful team work = better team!

7 2 Robotics – what is it? How are robots built?

8 Mechanical, electrical, and software engineering form
Robotics.

9 The field of robotics is composed of the engineering disciplines of:
Electrical engineering Software engineering Mechanical engineering

10 Robots come in many shapes and sizes
Motors move robots with legs, wheels, treads or pivot points : Robots often have appendages and sensors to help them achieve their tasks

11 Tools for building robots
Since robots are all different, the tools used to create a robot differ. Some common tools are: Screw driver Band saw File Pliers Drill Soldering iron Welding torch Wire cutters/strippers

12 STEPS: Fix Analytical Engineering Build Creative
Robot Build Process The process of building a robot is a creative process and an analytical process. Choices that are made will dictate the specifics of how each step is executed. STEPS: Fix Problem analysis What do we want the robot to do? Design Draw on paper or in CAD what the robot could look like Build Welding, drilling, screwing, hammering, soldering, filing Test Attempt to accomplish original goals Re-build/fix to completion Analytical Engineering Creative Build

13 3 Personal Goal Setting What is your role on the robotics team?

14 GOAL SETTING Support the team mission with personal goals
Much like building a robot, goal setting is a creative process, as well as an analytical one. Using the team mission as your compass, begin to think about some roles that you might play on the robotics team!

15 1 2 3 4 Organize with Sections Build your goal:
First think of what you have to offer the robotics team. Write it down. Using what we just learned about robotics, what is something you would like to know more about? Write it down. 1 2 Organize with Sections Think about the mission of the robotics team. Using steps 1,2, and 3 write down a personal goal that supports the mission of the robotics team. Make it an action! 3 4 Mission: The goal of our robotics team is to be a positive, professional environment where robotics can thrive.

16 Robotics is fun! What’s Your Message?
