- To be able to understand the roles within the design process - To be able to understand how designers communicate information throughout the design process Clients Individual or group They have identified a niche for new product Entrepreneurs (may be self funded or backed by others) They will commission a designer to develop their product Designers Work with client to develop a specification for new product Will would with marketing department to get information on the user They will continue to feedback to market department so that the new product meets users needs Inventors Developing new ideas/products/technology These are communicated via sketches or a working prototype These ideas/products are often not commercial products A designers with the use the idea and develop into a commercial product

Designer-maker Makers Users
- To be able to understand the roles within the design process - To be able to understand how designers communicate information throughout the design process Designer-maker Their role of to designer an product and then make a small-scale batch They are often craft men such as potters, or jewellery makers Makers These are the manufacturers who will produce the designs They might already be associated or owned by the client With the development of and the internet the makers can be in different countries which can reduce manufacture costs This is due to cheaper labour or raw materials These is known as global manufacturing Users Individual or group They will have had market research conducted on them by a marketing department If the marketing department and designer has done their roles correctly, the user will have a need for the product which has been produced
