One Camp/One Child $231 per camp Before Camp Care from 7:00 am to 9:00 am Monday – Friday $30 per week and child After Camp Care from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Monday – Friday. Campers must be picked up by 6:00 pm., after which an extra charge of $1.00 per minute will be applied. General Info 3 Frequently Asked Questions Continued 4 Before And After Camp Before and After Camps provide a fun and safe experience for campers who need to arrive before 9:00 am or stay after 4:00 pm. All campers are supervised by adults. Before and After Camp is only available to registered YPW campers. Before Camp 7:00 to 9:00 am Monday – Friday Campers must be checked in at the sign-in table in YPW each morning. Campers are supervised as they play games and / or watch movies. How should my child dress for camp? In comfortable clothes that may get messy Do You offer camps only in Spanish? No, we offer camps in Science, Technology, Art and other in English as well. Can you accommodate my child with special needs? We are happy to accommodate children with special needs but we ask that you notify us of your child’s needs prior to your child’s first day of camp. Please help us help your child by notifying us of any allergies, accessibility concerns, behavioral, psychological or emotional conditions, or other special needs. Please the Camp Manager at While we hope to offer these camps to as wide a range of children as possible, it is not possible for us to offer one-on-one care. In the case of severe food allergies, it is not possible for us to monitor the food other children bring into camp. YPW is NOT responsible for administering medication to children. Yes. We offer a wide variety of camps. We strive to help our young campers to discover intelligent fun through our hands-on and fun camps exploring different branches of art, languages, math, science and technology. What are the qualifications of your teachers and assistants? All of our teachers are certified school teachers or highly trained professionals with extensive experience in their respective fields. They all have experience working with children and enjoy hands-on interactive activities. May parents stay in the classroom? No. If you feel that your child is unable to remain in camp without you for more than a few minutes, you probably should wait a year before you send him/her to camp. Our weeklong camps promote independent learning and socialization. Parents are not allowed to remain in the classroom during camp hours. What are the behavior expectations for campers? Camper expectations are posted in each room and are emphasized throughout the week. In case of a severe behavior problem, we will call you and ask you to pick up your child. At our discretion, your child may be allowed to return to camp the following day. Whom may I contact during the day if I need to leave an emergency message concerning my child? No, many YPW Spanish workshops and camps are developed with the beginner in mind. . Do you cover different material every week / camp? Yes. Every week we cove different vocabulary and key phrases. My child knows Spanish. Do you have a camp advanced enough to keep her/him challenged? We design our Spanish Camps for children with different abilities and skills levels. Learn about the difference between light and pigment, create sun prints, experiment with various textured clays and more. In this art/science lab campers will observe how art and science overlap ZOO VETS Ages 6 To 10 - NEW - Westlake: June 19 – 23 9 to 12 pm; July 17 – to 4 pm; Central: June 12 – 16 9 to 12 pm; July 10 – to 4 pm; Junior veterinarians classify and compare animals, with a focus on the unique needs and characteristics of wild animals living in zoos. Students also examine the importance of creating zoo habitats and diets that keep animals healthy and reflect the animal’s life in the wild. From metal detectors to GPS, students dig deep as they research the world of hidden treasure and treasure-hunting methods. Geocaching methods and global positioning systems (GPS) will also be used to find hidden treasures in a Park. 7 8 Camp Listings Continued Camp Descriptions Continued ROBOCAMP Ages 6 To 12 - New projects and activities for returning campers - Westlake: June 12 – 16 1 to 4 pm; Central: July 3, 5 – 7 1 to 4 pm; July 17 – to 12 pm Elementary and middle school kids form project teams to solve challenges by building and programming robots using the LEGO Mindstorms & NXT Robotics Invention System. In addition to having fun, participants learn about mechanical and software design, computer simulation, project management and teamwork skills. Parents are invited to an end-of-the session "graduation" at YPW New challenges included for returning campers. Play a game to try to hit target “planets” with the foam rockets. Young People will explore the physical principles of gravity and inertia while launching rockets and having fun! Learn the science behind sticky and icky bodily functions while doing some truly nasty experiments. Young People will love this disgusting twist on regular science camps. ENGINEERING FUNDAMENTALS Ages 6 To 12 - New projects for returning campers - Westlake: July 10 – to 12 pm; June 1 – 2 1 to 4 pm; July 17 – 21 9 to 12 pm; Central: June 5 – 9 1 to 4 pm; July 10 – to 12 pm; Campers will learn how engineers apply their scientific and technical knowledge to design machines and devices by engaging in hands-on activities. Explore engineering on land by building vehicles such as a race car and a wind-up car. Next, investigate engineering with air by building some of the following: a helicopter, a pinwheel, a balloon rocket, and an air-powered carousel. Then, build a diving bell, a sailboat and a paddle boat to experiment with engineering in water. This camp provides an interactive way for children to learn about the physical world in which they live by designing and building vehicles using Lego construction models. Young People explore basic mechanics and design features; learn to discuss, plan, and test ideas; and strengthen their sorting and classifying skills.
