Wansdyke School, Downlands Road, Devizes, Wiltshire, SN10 5EF Tel: Fax: Website: Newsletter July 2016 “Working together, playing together, learning to be the best we can.” Treasure Island A huge congratulations to Year 5 and 6. Their production of Treasure Island was one of the best performances Wansdyke has ever seen. Goodbye and good luck to Megan Harris, Lucy Jennings, Selena Davey, We look forward to welcoming Louise Matthews who will be joining us as our new Admin Officer in September Headteacher's Message Dear all, It is hard to believe another academic year is drawing to a close. What a wonderful year it has been. We have welcomed parents and grandparents in to the school for stay and play and grandparents tea. We have enjoyed lots of fantastic parent’s assemblies, Christmas plays and more recently the Year 5/6 production. The music concert this year showcased the amazing talents that our children possess as well as our Rio week exhibiting the sporting talents of many of our children. The academic year also saw the school retain it’s ‘good’ status from OFSTED, no mean achievement in a time of raised expectations. All it leaves is for me is to wish you a relaxing summer. Charlotte Robinson Year 6 leavers As we say farewell to our Year 6 leavers I always leave them with a few quotes to think about……… ‘How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard’ ‘Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving on’ Good luck to our Year 6 leavers! Attendance and holidays
Netball report from Year 6 On Saturday 9th July, Wansdyke A netball team played at All Cannings. It was a round robin and we played Rowde, DAPS and All Cannings A and B. First we played DAPS winning Next we were against All Cannings A and it was a very tight match. Unfortunately Lani took a tumble 2 minutes before the end and had to come off but she continued the tournament; we lost 5-6. We went on to play Rowde, winning 9-1 and finally All Cannings B which we won We found out after that 3 schools had a score of 16 and therefore it went on goals scored. We needed 7 goals and doubled that! It was a hard tournament but we pushed through and deserved to win it. A fitting end to the season. Rosie & Ella T. Other players: Archie Pearce, Freya Cowden, Lily Kimber, Lani Alvarez, Katie Curtis, Emelia Taylor Well played everyone and many thanks to the parents supporting them. It did make a difference. Some year 5/6 parents also played in the last club of the year. It was a brilliant game and the mums came out worthy winners. Uniform and haircuts In the summer holidays, no doubt you will buy uniform ready for September. Can I politely remind parents that children should be wearing uniform everyday. Part of our uniform is black shoes or boots. Please ensure your child has the correct footwear (brown footwear or trainers will not be permitted) Part of our uniform policy includes appropriate hair cuts. Please ensure your child does not have their hair cut into defined areas and that hair is blended. Children should not have patterns/lines shaved in to their hair. Attendance and holidays Advice from the DFE and Wiltshire local authority remains that holidays in term time are not authorised by Headteacher. Therefore, it remains the case that only holidays in ‘exceptional circumstances’ will be authorised and these will be considered on a case by case basis. Don’t forget to Update all of your details with us, including phone numbers. Download you child’s See-Saw account before September Check the lost property Return any report slips
