Welcome Fifth Grade Parents

Attendance Attendance is so important.
Our fifth grade is active with hands-on activities. Enrichment is NO longer an extended specials. It is very important that on Wednesdays students not miss during this time.

Students are marked tardy at 8:05.
Tardies Students are marked tardy at 8:05. So much is accomplished between 7:50 and 8:05! Students feel like they are behind if they’re not on-time… it just makes their day go nicer. We also leave for specials at 8:05.

Cell Phone Use Cell phones must be turned off and left in backpacks.
Cell phones will be turned into office for any violations.

Manners Banquet Friday, Sept. 30 Time to be announced
Students dress nicely! No shorts. We need parents to be servers. This is not a DATE! We will focus on manners and etiquette. .

They will need a colonial outfit. Feel free to use things from home; no need to purchase a costume

Weekly Planner Weekly Planner gets turned in EVERY Monday morning.
Students are responsible for having their planner at all times.

Lunch Bunch Requirements - No conduct marks
-Planner must be turned in and signed if they have conduct marks. -All homework turned in on time unless absent. It still has to be turned in once student returns to school. Students earn picnic lunch and extra recess and then join others for the regular recess.

Book and a Bite Student/Parent Book Club Mondays 6:30
First one Oct. 17th- A Year Down Yonder Books are paired with a food from the story. The ‘bite’ is pot luck. Books are coming!!! We are SO excited for this!!

Reading Interactive Read Aloud-reading lesson
Independent Reading-about 40 minutes each day with a written response, responses will be part of grades Small groups during independent reading Writing Word Study Reading tutoring begins October, by invitation only STAAR Test, March 29th (SSI)

Math Class Daily Instruction includes the use of Interactive Student Notebook, direct teaching, group work, and independent work Knowing multiplication facts rotely is necessary for fifth grade success (Xmath, websites, apps, and First in Math) Students must be able to draw pictures or interprets models of all operations, fractions and decimals (area models, strip diagrams) STAAR Test, March 28th (SSI)

Interactive Notebook You will make your own “textbook” over the year in the form of an Interactive Notebook. This notebook will contain the following: Table of Contents Smart Goals for each unit with a reflection piece Notes Assignments You are responsible for keeping your notebook organized and updated. There will be random checks during the year.
