Back to School Welcome to an exciting year of learning! As a teacher who has taught for 25 years, I’ve discovered that there are 3 very key components to a successful and productive classroom. These components include: the environment, the curriculum and student motivation. I will strive to create an environment that will be conducive to learning, one that is comfortable, accepting, and safe. Our classroom will be kept tidy and organized. Cooperative learning groups will facilitate learning and “respect” will be the underlining principle that will guide all activities. The fourth grade curriculum will be taught to motivate all learning styles. Hands on projects, integrated lessons, and a passionate teacher will ensure students are engaged in learning each of the Davis County Desk standards. Each student is valued and will be praised for their accomplishments. Individual goals will be set and frequently monitored. Students will understand that we are a community of learners and a good education can lead to a brighter future. On this slide explain what assessments your students are required to take such as GMADE, GRADE, DIBELS, or other standardized tests. You might also want to include some information about spelling tests or other weekly tests.

Treasured Each student will be thought of as a precious jewel that will add to the composition of our classroom! Like unique gems, some students may need a little more pressure, some may need a delicate hand, and some may have magnificence hidden waiting to be uncovered. If you have the preview open on the left side of your screen that shows all of your slides, right click on the preview of this slide and click “Duplicate slide.”

R is for Rules * Follow directions quickly * Raise your hand to speak
* Use quiet movement * Make smart choices * Follow the 4R’s Students will record behavior on their planner page. Each student will reflect upon their behavior, and circle a particular status earned each quarter. The behavior status include, starting with the top performing behavior: “MVP” (most valuable player), “goal status”, “team player,” a “time out”, and a “penalty ”. Students not following rules will receive a foul, which is the same as a warning, a second violation of the rules in a quarter will result in a time out which is a loss of 5 minutes of recess. Three infractions will result in penalty and a note will be sent home with the student. Include your class rules on this slide

A is for Attendance Each day is filled with many learning opportunities. Make-up assignments can be completed, but there are experiences and instruction that cannot be duplicated in a worksheet. Every minute of the day is utilized, so please avoid students being absent, tardy, and/or checked out early whenever possible. Homework can be accessed via classroom website. Explain what students will be required to learn/do in reading this year. You might want to talk about Daily 5/Literacy Centers/Workstations if you use them in your classroom. In fact, you might want to duplicate this slide and add your center information to a separate slide.
9
S is for school work I expect each student to do their very best work. Homework is assigned daily and is required the next day. Friday homework can usually be completed during the day, but will be turned in the following Monday. Each day students will be required to complete a planner page, I encourage students to use this page for editing practice, proofreading their pages and correcting any errors. Explain what students will be required to learn/do in math this year.

R is for Routines Routines promote independent work. When students can work independently, as a teacher, I can complete small group and/ or individual instruction. Planner pages are a key element to the daily routine. Each day there will be activities that need to be completed before going to recess. Parent and teacher initials are required on the daily pages. Planner pages are also used for daily reading logs and responses. Students should be encouraged to correct any spelling errors and illegible writing. Explain what students will be required to learn/do in science this year.

E is for the Essentials 1.Expect to review daily homework.
2. Help your child be prepared each day, this includes: homework folder with completed homework inside, an independent reading book, and a signed planner page. 3. I will give each student one copy of various assignments, if this copy is lost the student will have to use classroom money to purchase a new copy. Explain what students will be required to learn/do in social studies this year.
13
E is for the Essentials 5. Davis District homework policy recommends 4th graders spend 40 minutes on homework.
