2. Expectations
Shoe Laces- Please make sure that if your student has shoe laces they can tie them on their own.
Students need to be able to read and or work independently for at least 20 minutes on their own.
Listening skills are essential. We read all tests but the students must be able to follow along. Students need to be able to follow 2-3 instructions to work independently.
Students are responsible for their own materials (teachers do not check green folders)
Students need to be able to write first and last name on their own
Students must know where they go after school and if they buy lunch or not.
Students need to be able to verbalize their needs, go to the bathroom by themselves, and take care of their bathroom needs independently.
Independence is key

We will have test dates, field trip dates, summative project due dates, and any other important dates pertaining to first grade listed in the First Grade Calendar on the First Grade Website.

4. Schedule School begins: 7:45am 1/2 Day Dismissal: 12:00pm
Full Day Dismissal: 3:10pm
Wednesday Dismissal: 2:00pm
Please note: When there is a school-wide half day, all scholars will dismiss at 12:00pm. Lunch boxes will be available for purchase to take home. Students will not each lunch in class. Aftercare students will eat lunch in aftercare.
Specials Times/Teacher Planning Period 1:10-2 and Wed 1:10-1:50
Recess is from11-11:30 and Lunch is from 11:30 – 12
PE is on Tuesday and Thursday for 30 minutes in the morning

5. Primary Years Program (PYP)
PYP Planner Dates At the conclusion of every unit we will you a 2 question survey asking: What questions scholars are asking at home? And What action have you seen your scholar take that pertain to the unit?
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) Primary Years Programme is a curriculum framework designed for students aged 3 to 12.
It prepares students for the intellectual challenges of further education and their future careers, focusing on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside.

7. Math
For math we will be following the GO math and Everyday math curriculum and the uplift scope and sequence
St Math is REQUIRED HOMEWORK 60 Minutes a week. IF they finish early they have the challenge section for them to work on. IXL will also be available.

8. Humanities
The curriculum follows the Uplift scope and sequence and the PYP planner.
Humanities is very PYP heavy in the first semester.
If your child is doing any action at home that goes with our planner please your teacher. For example we have a unit that talks about our personal history and if your child starts to ask questions about family and your personal history and seems really interested let us know so we can shout them out in class as being an inquirer and put it in our planner as student action.
We will have three test every nine weeks.

10. Behavior System
Please check your scholars planner daily for Homework and Behavior information.
Everyday your scholar’s teacher will write behavior color as the parent you are expected to sign the planner every evening and return to school the next day.

11. Homework
In first grade students are required to do 60 minutes of ST Math weekly, 30 minutes of istation, and a weekly Reading Log. They will receive a homework participation grade in citizenship. Please refer to the grading rubric on the First Grade Website.

12. Other
Contact Teacher: Best way to contact us is please do not leave us a message on our phone we might not get it. If you are having computer issues please send written notes. Make sure your child knows they have a note to give to us.
Volunteers: We will be needing volunteers for field trips and parties in the classroom. If you are interested helping out the room parent please let us know.
Mystery Reader: If you would like to volunteer as a mystery reader please reach out to your teacher and she will help you schedule a time that would be good.
Backpack: Please send your scholar with a water bottle, change of uniform, a book to read, Green Take Home Folder, Planner, and a poncho in their back pack.
Late Pickup: We no longer have a late room table. Pickup after 4:00 will be in the office with a $20 fee. Pickup information is also available on the back of the carpool card.
