The following page is a checklist to help students understand all of the material that should be researched and written on their brochure.

3. Class Pet Brochure Project Checklist
- Title your Brochure and include a detailed illustration on the front
Include the following under an appropriate heading..
Pet Name, Origin, Scientific Name
Life Span and Average Size
Geographical Location and usual Habitat(s)
Care and Maintenance
Proper Hygiene Steps (animal & handler)
Feeding
Shedding (if applicable)
Baby Care
At least 3 Important Tips or Interesting Facts (bulleted list)
Animal anatomy diagram with specific labels (doesn’t count as one of the 3 illustrations required)
At least 3 illustrations (one MUST be a drawing)
At least 1 graph or chart (anything to do with your chosen class pet)
TIP
Plan out your illustrations, charts, graphs and diagram first so that you know how much space you have for the information.

The following slides are some questions to think about while researching a specific topic. They are just suggestions, not requirements.

How long do they live? How big are they at birth?

Where is your animal from? What is their habitat like?
What kind of temperatures/humidity does your animal prefer?
What do their homes look like (burrow, cave, tree, ect)?

13. Care + Maintenance How do you care for the animal? Do they need baths?
Do they have any special needs or requirements?
How should their enclosures be prepared? Cleaned?
When should they visit a vet?
How do you correctly handle your pet?

14. Proper Hygiene How do you keep your pet safe from human germs?
What steps do you take to make sure you’re safe from germs when your pet?

use sanitizer after handling the pet?

15. Feeding What do they eat? How often does your pet eat?
What do they eat in their native habitat?
Does your pet need any special types of food?
Where can you find the pet’s food?
How do you feed your pet?
Do you need to be careful when feeding your pet?

16. Shedding If so, how often? Will your animal shed? Does shedding hurt?
How can you tell if your pet is shedding?
What type of skin do they have? What happens when they shed?
What precautions do you need to take while your animal is shedding?

17. Baby Care How old must the pet be before you can take it home?
What special care do they need while they are growing?
