HIGHTOWER TRAIL MIDDLE 6TH GRADE SUPPLY LIST 2017‐2018
Dear Parents of Incoming Sixth Graders, We are very excited about starting the school year with your child. Moving to middle school is a big and exciting step! One of the many keys to being successful in middle school is organization. It is the intent of the sixth grade teachers that your child’s first experience at Hightower Trail Middle School is a positive one. Therefore, it is important that supplies are purchased prior to the first day of school and as soon as a teacher requests. Please, please, please maintain these supplies throughout the school year. ITEMS EACH STUDENT NEEDS DAILY: Pencil pouch – to carry all supplies needed for each class (glue stick, pencils, pens, scissors) #2 Pencils to use throughout the year 1 Pair of scissors (Fiskars 12+) Colored pencils and sharpener (closed type) Headphones or ear buds Flash drive Locker shelf (recommended) Two PLASTIC 6-pocket expanding files (preferably two different colors) OR one PLASTIC 13-pocket expanding file – should have secure bungee closure Lined ntbk paper (wide or college your choice) 2 Fine-Tip black sharpies 2-4 Highlighters 2 XL Glue stick(s) – Will need 8 to 1o for the year ITEMS NEEDED FOR HOMEROOM: 2 Boxes of tissue 1 Disinfecting wipe container Hand sanitizer (24-40 oz.) 1 Box “fun” Band-Aids LOCKER INFORMATION: Lockers are 12” wide and 11” deep Shelves with sturdy legs are recommended Magnets ONLY (no stickers or tape) Please be sure book bags and other items will fit inside. It is recommended for students to clean out lockers on a regular basis LANGUAGE ARTS (Writing): 1 Composition notebook – NO spiral Blue or black pens to use all year MATH: Graph paper (1/4” loose leaf – give to teacher please) Requirements will be provided during the first week of school READING: Composition notebook – NO spiral Copies of class novels Advanced Content (AC) Reading – Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt, Tangerine by Edward Bloor, and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll On-Level (OL) Reading – The Cay by Theodore Taylor and The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster We require that students label ALL of their materials – with permanent marker/sharpie. Expanding folders MUST have the student’s name and academic schedule written on the outside (students will receive this information on day #1 of school). Soft cover consumable books MUST have the student’s name on the sides (along the pages) AND in the inside front and back covers.
