2 The case for FlexPod Converged Infrastructure
Do It Yourself + Business Values: Simplified IT Reduced Total Cost Increased agility Reduced risk vs. Ready Made! More and more, enterprises are seeking out simplified IT solutions for infrastructure and applications. FlexPod’s success is due to its ability to simplify IT infrastructure and accelerate the delivery of IT applications. FlexPod simplifies infrastructure by providing pre-validated architectures, ensuring that servers, network, and storage operate as a unified team, not as separate tiers or silos. FlexPod accelerates the delivery of applications by providing end-to-end validated design and deployment guides, removing many of the challenges involved in bringing new services to market quickly. === (optional intro) Starbucks “Frappuccino” was debuted by Starbucks in It now composes 64% of almost US$1bill Ready-to-Drink coffee market. In its Coffee report, Mintel attributes RTD coffee’s performance, which is projected to continue to grow, to the demand for sweet drinks among young adults and the introduction of coffee-and-energy-drink combinations that also appeal to younger consumers. This group does not spend much time brewing coffee. 2 © 2017 NetApp, Inc. All rights reserved NETAPP CONFIDENTIAL ---

4 FlexPod helps IT accelerate business
Service Request Service Available Traditional Many Weeks or Months Design and Size DC Planning Procure Detailed Design Deploy Test X With FlexPod® Reference BOM Validated design Precise deployment Standard test plan Service Available > 50% Faster Many organizations perform the following steps when servicing a new application or requirement: Collect detailed requirements. Architect and size: Work with the vendors to architect and size the system. Depending on the number of applications and the number of vendors involved, the sizing and architecting phase can take many weeks and often months. DC planning: Work with the data center team to negotiate power, floor space, and cooling requirements for the new system. Procure equipment: This phase involves many weeks of obtaining quotes, ordering, and receiving the new gear. The time it takes to deal with a large organization, plus additional shipping times, can easily total six weeks. Detailed design: This phase involves working out the exact configuration for compute configuration, network connectivity, storage layout, security, and isolation. Deploy: Configure the equipment for use. Test: Create and run a test plan to make sure that the equipment is correctly installed and meets the original requirements. By using FlexPod, many of these phases are compressed or removed altogether. Customers who take the standardized approach to IT have repeatedly demonstrated better than 50% faster deployment times over traditional approaches. Cisco, NetApp, and VMware provide the reference collateral (sizing, design, deployment, and testing) to standardize this deployment approach for all customers. Many organizations don’t know the future demands that will be placed on IT, but IT is expected to be very responsive. So going a step further by forward (preprovisioned) FlexPod as a pool of infrastructure, the compute, network, and storage resources are on the floor already, and it is a very rapid process to meet business needs. You can efficiently preprovision infrastructure only if it augments pools of shared infrastructure and satisfies a wide range of application requirements. FlexPod for VMware has been architected to meet a wide range of application demands from shared infrastructure pools that are centrally managed. 7 The next wave: flash going mainstream
Performance Low Performance and Capacity High Cheap and Deep Number of applications Performance at Any Cost First-generation AFAs Virtualization Engineering Home directories Database Public/private cloud, IaaS Next-generation AFAs Flash is almost the same cost as SAS and is exceeding HDD capacity Situation: Flash has historically been deployed for performance workloads. The market for this is important but small: The next generation of flash makes it economically feasible to support the less performance-sensitive apps that are the bulk of data center applications on flash. This includes virtualization, engineering workloads, home directories, tier 2 databases, and infrastructure as a service (IaaS). These workloads have always been a strength of NetApp. It’s where our unified capabilities have the most value. Archival workloads can still be put cost-effectively on disk, but we see that left bar rapidly moving to the left. Takeaway: The market is going to explode; it is in a NetApp sweet spot; we are perfectly positioned for it. Gartner: “Select SSAs for all primary applications and workloads, but do not restrict their usage for other applications.” © 2017 NetApp, Inc. All rights reserved.

10 FAS9000: intelligent modular design for superior RAS
FAS9000 / A700 Rear View Two independent controllers with: 10 PCIe I/O slots per controller 2 NVMe slots per controller Service independent of I/O cards Flexible, high-performance I/O Add and upgrade as needs evolve 40GbE, 10GbE 32Gb FC, 16Gb FC 12Gb SAS-3 Some in the audience may note that the FAS9000 has fewer I/O slots than the FAS8080 EX (20 vs 24) and no on-board I/O. However, the FAS9000 has dedicated slots for NVMe Flash Cache (many slots in a FAS8080 EX configuration may have been consumed by Flash Cache) and the connectivity focus with the FAS9000 is on high-performance I/O: 40GbE and 32Gb FC to reduce the number of total I/O ports needed and simplifying cabling. © 2016 NetApp, Inc. The FlexPod Cooperative Support Model represents a multivendor engagement that includes not only NetApp and Cisco, but also an ecosystem of technology partners such as Citrix, Microsoft, and VMware. The customer’s IT staff chooses which vendor to call upon based on the staff’s initial assessment of the problem’s origin. Today, only about 2% of all FlexPod cases are escalated to a second vendor, because 98% are resolved by the first vendor contacted. And with support staff cross-trained to identify common FlexPod issues and to use formal collaboration processes, when cross-vendor escalations are necessary, they are quickly and seamlessly resolved. © 2017 NetApp, Inc.
