Course Description Algebra II digs deeper into the understanding of functions and their graphs, deals heavily on quadratics and higher degree polynomials: graphing and solving, expands with properties of exponents and solving exponential equations, starts with properties of logarithms and solving logarithmic equations, works with inequalities, analyzes and summarizes data, and introduces trigonometry.

Teacher EXPECTATIONS I have high expectations of you and everything I expect, should be what you expect from yourself as well. I want you to succeed in this class and in order to do that you will have to work. It’s not always just about trying, although I do appreciate your efforts, it’s about getting it done and getting it done correctly. I will not contact your parents, I will not hound you for missing work, I will not make you come into OP, and I will not show you any sympathy for what you think you can’t do. I want YOU to take REPONSIBILITY in your own LEARNING and that may mean you’ll just have to work a little bit harder.
4
1. NO WHINING, NO COMPLAINING, NO EXCUSES
5
2. Respect others, Respect yourself, and take Responsibility for your actions.
6
3. No FOOD or DRINK allowed in the classroom
7
4. Be in your seats to be dismissed
You must be in your seat when the bell rings. You won’t be able to leave until everyone is in their seat.
8
5. Come to class prepared, on time, and excited to learn /work.
Prepared: Pencil – I won’t accept anything in pen. ALWAYS use pencil! Binder – keep a handy-dandy binder for organization of notes. On time: You are tardy if you are not in your seat when the bell rings. Excited to learn/work: Attitude is everything! If it needs to be changed, it better be done before you enter the room.

Daily Routine Before you sit down in class, pick up a half sheet of paper and your notes page. When the bell rings, your math meds – approximately 5-10 questions, depending on difficulty level, about the previous day’s material – will be on the board. The first 10 minutes of class is allotted for this. Take the time to do these because after time is up you may be selected to do one on the board. You will be expected to do what you have, correct/finished or not. Then we’ll get right on into what the day’s lesson is. After the lesson is presented with a few quick examples for the main points, you’ll answer some summary questions and then I’ll give you your independent practice. Most days you’ll have time at the end of class to work on your independent practice, so use the time wisely and get work done and ask questions while you can.

Assignments, Tests, and Participation
Assignments: You will get homework every day. It must be written in pencil and the work must be shown, unless I tell you otherwise. I believe practice makes perfect and if you chose not to do your homework it will affect your tests as well as your overall grade. “Don’t be upset with the results you didn’t get with the work you didn’t do!”
12
Tests: Tests are planned at least a couple days ahead of time
Tests: Tests are planned at least a couple days ahead of time. If you miss a test, it is your job to come to me and make it up within a weeks time. After that, it stays a zero in the grade book. *If you miss the day before the test and show up on the day of the test, you WILL take the test. Participation: Coming to class and participating in class is very important! In order to receive your participation points (10 points a day), you must be in attendance. If you are absent, you must spend an OP day with me to make it up.
13
Tardies My Tardy Policy: 1st-3rd -> tardy in the gradebook 4th and after -> referral. Remember: You are counted tardy when you are not in your seat when the bell rings. *You know when you are considered tardy. It is not my job to give you reminders of which tardy you are on. If you want to know, ask me. Otherwise, show up on time and you won’t have a problem.
14
Missing Work and Late Work
Every missing assignment will go in the grade book as a zero, even if it’s from an absence. The makeup policy is the same as stated in the handbook. I will accept late work until the end of the week but it will be for half credit. After that, it stays a zero. I grade homework daily, but do not put it in skyward until the end of the week. If you are unsure of what I have and don’t have for your missing work, ask me and I will tell you. It maybe a good idea to keep your homework until you get a grade sheet (given every two weeks) so you are sure it is in the grade book.
15
Make Up Work and Assignments
If you are absent any day, there is make-up folder with your block that has the things you missed and what is needed to turn in. If a worksheet is involved, it will be in a folder with your name on it. *I have made your make up work available to you, therefore it is not my responsibility to hand it to you when you return, it is yours to get and turn in on time. **If you are suspended, I will not send work over. You will have to get it when you get back.
16
Passes You have 6 passes for the semester. Use them wisely. Once you run out, you will not be able to leave the room unless you want to spend some detention time after school that day. *You will need the pass and your agenda. I will sign your pass and all you need to take is your agenda. If you do not have both, you will not be able to leave. So, make sure you have your agenda at all times.
17
Cussing If you cuss, it will cost you MONEY. You’ll IMMEDIATELY have to pay a quarter for every cuss word I hear you say. Keep in mind it is what I consider a cuss word. So to be safe, talk like a G rated movie. If the money does not make it’s way into my possession, it will cost you a 15 minute detention to be served THAT DAY. Not serving your detention will earn you a referral. The F word is strongly disliked and if I hear you say it, it will result in an automatic trip to the TOR. - Watch your language -
18
Phone, Music, and IPad Phone: Simple phone rule…if I see it or hear it when used intentionally (other than music), I’m taking it. Music: You will be able to listen to music when the lesson is over and you have your homework. Only music. If I catch anyone using their phone or IPod for anything else, that privilege will be taken away for the rest of the semester. IPad: Your Ipad is to be put away in your bag until I ask you to get it out for use. Whenever the use is completed, it is to return to your bag. It is expected that it be charged before the school day, so do not ask to charge it in class. If it is out during class time when it is not supposed to be, it will end up on my desk for the remainder of the block.

Extra Credit Opportunities
Daily Facts Quiz (Up to 10 homework points): Every day there will be a useless fact on the north board. Take note on what they say. Every two weeks and after the math meds, I will quiz you on those facts. Whatever you get right is the amount of extra credit you get. At the end of the semester, you can write a 3 page paper over the history of algebra. It will be worth 50 homework points. Criteria: 12 pt font, 1 inch margins, Calibri font type, bibliography (give credit where credit is due). Must include history of algebra and names of at least 2 mathematicians who made a big impact in algebra. Must site at least 2 different sources in bibliography.
