Comparative Study eBasta Existing systems
Many publishers and state boards have their own portals. Each has its own way of organisation/structure for the eContent on their portal. It is tedious for student to understand structure of each portal while accessing eBooks of multiple publishers. Each portal usually caters to only one or a small number of providers. eBooks/eResources available as a single book/resource. Collections of study material for a Class or for a topic is not available. Students tend to get lost while accessing various resources downloaded from web: filenames as chosen by the provider. Scattered in various directories generally as a flat list of files. Readers for downloaded resources may not be available on student device. Generally tied to one DRM vendor. eBasta Teachers can organise the resources in a pedagogically appropriate manner (we use the term eBasta for this) that will be uniform for all students in the class. For students also, this saves them from having to deal with a number of individual files on the device, and visiting different portals and resource centres. Built using open source technologies, so development/maintenance costs are minimal. Support for multiple DRM vendors’ solutions.
