5 Guidelines Groups should work together to create their own topographical map of the U.S. using materials provided and their own colored pencils, makers etc. There needs to be a Map Key, a Title, a Scale and a Compass on the map. At bare minimum you need to identify the Rocky and Appalachian Mtns, the Great Plains, the Great Lakes, all Oceans and major bodies of water (Gulf of Mexico), and the Mississippi River. You will have one day in class to work on this as a group

6 Second Part You are to write a narrative as if you were traveling across the U.S. as an explorer. i.e. Lewis and Clark You need to describe all of the different physical features you may have come across, wildlife, vegetation, etc You may use outside resource to complete this section Be creative as possible, make it interesting! Spelling counts, along with all other standards for modern written English (grammar, punctuation etc) Typed (double spaced) or hand written, 1 page

My journey started when I landed in New York City after crossing the Atlantic Ocean. The city was small, but bustling, with people and goods moving every which way. I wanted to make my way west towards a small military fort at the mouth of a large lake called Ontario. I found a guide in town and we started on our journey west. We had to battle with the Appalachian Mountains coming up from the South and the Adirondack Mountains that came down from the north. The sites were beautiful but the terrain was treacherous so we traveled up the Hudson River. The river was fairly large and…………
