How is Cellular Respiration like Burning Fossil Fuels?
3
What is the path of carbon from CO2 in the air into coal deep in the earth?
5
C6H12O6 + 6 02 —> 6 CO2 + 6 H20 + energy
Burning Fossil Fuels has the SAME formula as Cellular Respiration C6H12O —> 6 CO2 + 6 H20 + energy
6
C6H12O6 + 6 02 —> 6 CO2 + 6 H20 Require Oxygen Both
So keep breathing! Your cells need O2 to convert food (glucose) into energy.
7
Both Burning Fossil Fuels & Cellular Respiration Release Heat Energy
That originated from the sun during photosynthesis Cellular Respiration uses the energy to keep the body warm, and give us energy to move and live. Burning Fossil uses energy (propane, butane, octane) we use in keep our buildings warm and for cars and machines to move.
8
chains of Hydro-carbons/ Carbo-hydrates for energy.
Fossil Fuels & Cells Break down similar chains of Hydro-carbons/ Carbo-hydrates for energy. Octane
9
Both give off CO2. MITOCHONDIRA: IN: GLUCOSE OUT: CO2 H2O Energy
10
A. Both release CO2 compounds. (containing carbon)
How is cellular respiration by plants similar to the burning of fossil fuels? A. Both release CO2 Global Warming increases Animals breath out CO2 B. Break down organic compounds. (containing carbon)
11
C. Both produce ATP. (energy in the mitochondria) D. Both use absorbed sun light.
12
How are fossil fuels produced by photosynthesis?
Plankton capture CO2. Plankton use photosynthesis to break the chemical bonds between Carbon//Oxygen. Energy is released & used by plankton to move, reproduce, move towards light . . . They die and sink to the ocean bottom. They are ‘cooked’ by the heat/pressure of the earth. (The core of the earth is molten lava!) They make coal, shale, oil or natural gas, depending on the depth at which they sink.
