Beer Making Process: Waste production & P2 Application
Waste produced P2 application 1. Malting Discarded grains (grains of less than 2.2 mm in diameter, removed when grain is cleaned) Store at low temperature and low moisture (improve operation, B1) Chicken feed (reuse, D1) 2. Milling Spill grist 3. Mashing - (no waste produced ) 4. Lautering Spent grain (accounting to about 85% of the waste produced) Animal feed (concentration waste (dry by evaporation)/ reuse (wet)) (C2/D1) Making compose (recycle) (D2) 5. Boiling (brewing) - 6. Whirlpool (remove hops) + Wort cooling Spent hops Cooling water Animal feed (adding to spent grain) Making compose Reuse of wort cooling water as the process water for the next mash (D1)=reducing energy use

Process Waste produced P2 application
7. Fermenting Excess yeasts Use in the next fermentation (reuse) 8. Maturing/ Conditioning Spill beer Adding to spent grain that is being dried through evaporation and then use as animal feed (D1) 9. Filtering Spent yeasts Animal feed Making compose 10. Bottling & Pasteurization Broken / rejected bottles and/or cans Waste Cardboard Making new bottles/cans (recycle) (D2) Making new boxes (recycle)
10
spent grain has a lot of fiber and is high in protein.
11
Cows eating spent yeast
Yeast Contains Beneficial Protein and Thiamine (Vitamin B1)
12
Spent grains have a ton of nitrogen and organic matter, which are just the stuff plants need to grow.
