6 Commas Look at this sentence: -
At the farm Peter saw geese and cows and an old cart. The sentence does not sound right; there are too many ands. It should be more like this: - At the farm Peter saw geese, cows and an old cart.

7 Task In your books, write out these sentences correctly. Take out the extra ands and put in the commas; 1. The packet contained red and blue and green and yellow felt tips. 2. At the top of the league were Liverpool and Manchester United and Crewe Alexandra and Carlisle United. 3. Violins and recorders and drums and guitars were all set out in the music room. 4. The tube was full of purple and green and yellow and red Smarties. 5. Tony had sandwiches and crisps and chocolate and cakes in his packed lunch box. 6. Helen had invited Chris and Terry and Fred and Bill and Charlie and Gary to her birthday party. 7. The children loved it at the zoo. They saw monkeys and hippos and tigers and lions and a big polar bear.

11 What different tenses can we use?

12 Tenses only relates to verbs! You cannot change the tense of a noun!

13 Present Tense He is skipping. He is doing it now.

14 I’ve done it. It’s gone or past.
Past Tense I was jumping. Or I jumped. I’ve done it. It’s gone or past.

15 Future Tense I will jump. Or I am going to jump. I have not done it yet. I am going to do it in the future.

16 Can you spot the mistakes?

17 What is the past tense of these verbs?
I go I am I have We are He is They are I am swimming I am running I am sleeping

18 Task Can you read the passage and underline any words that you think are in the wrong tense. Rewrite the passage using the correct tense
