Bellringer 1. If I eat lunch during my signed lunch period, then I will not be hungry when school gets out. 2. The sun is not out today. It will rain today. 3. If skin cancer is related to ultraviolet light, then people with a high exposure to sunlight will have a higher frequency of skin cancer because sunlight contains ultraviolet light. Read the statements or claims carefully Identify them as BAD, GOOD, or EXCELLENT examples of a hypothesis Explain your choices.

How to Write an Excellent Hypothesis
Mini Lesson
3
What is an excellent hypothesis?
A hypothesis is a tentative statement that proposes a possible explanation to some phenomenon or event. A useful hypothesis is a testable statement which may include a prediction. Usually, a hypothesis is based on some previous observation. Written as an if… then … because… statement.

What is an excellent hypothesis?
Your neighbor has huge roses in his yard, much bigger than your own. You would like to know why this is, so you come up with a hypothesis as to why they have bigger plants. Which of the following is a good hypothesis? If it is not good, what criteria does it fail to satisfy? “My plants are not growing. I never fertilize them because I don’t have time.” “If I get lucky, then my plants will grow bigger because plants need a lot of luck to grow.” “If I give my plants fertilizer, then they will grow as big as my neighbor’s because fertilizer contain nutrients that a plant needs to grow.”
5
What is an excellent hypothesis?
You have noticed how in some parts of United States trees change colors with the seasons. You wonder why it happens. Which of the following is a good hypothesis? "Trees will change color when it gets cold." “If the temperature gets cold, then the trees will change colors.” “If leaf color change is related to temperature, then exposing plants to low temperatures will result in changes in leaf color.” To the Teacher: Instruct students to complete their challenges.

Day 2 - Unit Conversions When kilograms (kg) pose as milligrams (mg)…
7
Converting units is pretty much the same thing as dressing up numbers in different outfits
In the end, it’s still the same number. It just has a different unit attached to it
8
Review What are the base units of the following types of measurements?
Length: _______________ Volume: _______________ Mass: _________________ Temperature: __________________
