Speaker notes: Intro-loop
International students don’t end up in a remote Scandinavian town by chance. They come here because they share a set of beliefs and values – things like equality, sustainability and a modern approach to learning. They come here because at the University of Gothenburg these values are extra prominent – even by Scandinavian standards. They come here because they believe that a broader perspective is better, that curiosity is the driver of learning and that the international classroom is a hothouse for the employees of the future. They come because these are ideals we share.

Right in the heart of Scandinavia
Speaker notes: We like to say that Gothenburg is in the heart of Scandinavia – centered right between the capitals of Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Gothenburg is Sweden’s second city, the biggest port in Scandinavia and hometown of some really well known global brands. (but we’ll get back to that). Sweden is situated in Northern Europe. Gothenburg is located in the south of Sweden, on the west coast. 4 hours by train to Oslo or Copenhagen and 3 hours to Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. 9 million inhabitants. Almost 90 percent of the population live in southern Sweden. Multicultural. Today, almost one fifth of the nine million inhabitants were born abroad or have parents who were born abroad. Swedish is the main language in Sweden, but almost all Swedes speak fluent English. Largest number of global companies per capita in the world (according to the Swedish Institute).

Scandinavian values and methods of leArning
Speaker notes: Why Scandinavia? We don’t believe international students come here by chance. We believe they come here because they share a set of typically Scandinavian values – such as equality, sustainability and openess to innovation.
6
Non-Hierarchical Open Minded Sustainable Teams / Projects
Speaker notes: They come here because they want modern methods of learning – learn to work in teams, to solve assignments without being instructed how to solve them, how to present their findings and argue for them. At the University of Gothenburg these features are extra prominent– even by Scandinavian standards. Real examples of how/where the University of Gothenburg pushes these values. Teams: Sustainability: Non-Hierachical: Open-Minded: The University of Gothenburg is a partner of West Pride Teams / Projects
7
Home of global businesses, like Nudie, SKF and Volvo
Speaker notes: We also like to keep our education close to reality, for example by keeping a close relationship with local organisations and industry. Fact is, Sweden has the largest number of global companies per capita in the world. And some of these attractive future employers have their headquarters in Gothenburg.

HOW IS THE STUDENT LIFE? Speaker Notes - Gothenburg:
Gothenburg has more students than any other city in Sweden. A buzzing city life, a thriving music scene but also proximity to the sea and recreational areas. Gothenburg is somewhere between a small town and a large city. It's big enough to offer the buzz of the city and plenty of activities, but small enough to feel intimate. As a new international student, you are invited to participate in our Introduction Programme and you can get a “Student Buddy” - a personal guide who will help you adapt to life in Gothenburg and Sweden. We also have Student Göteborg, an annual welcome programme for all new students at the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University (Chalmers is the tech. university in Gothenburg that the University collaborates with) Beatrice Törnros/Mediabank Göteborg & Co.

WHAT ABOUT ACCOMMODATION?
Speaker notes - Accommodation The University of Gothenburg cannot guarantee housing for all incoming international students. There are a number of options when it comes to finding accommodation. However, there is a great deal of demand for accommodation, and you should be prepared to be flexible in terms of considering various types of accommodation to begin with. You will find more information on our website: Heléne Grynfarb/imagebank.sweden.se
