BTEC Staff Development 2010
08/02/2018 How will the new Qualifications and Credit framework affect Coleg Powys? All existing NQF BTECs are accredited until 31 August 2010 After this, all new registrations must be on the new QCF BTECs Ensures continued funding and accreditation for BTEC units and BTEC qualifications Re-titling of BTEC Firsts and Nationals to fit the QCF definitions Minimal change to specifications unless improvements were considered necessary Greater support and guidance built into specifications Delivery and assessment remain unchanged THE FOLLOWING ARE NOTES FROM PREVIOUS EVENT JUST TO SET THE SCENE, BUT MOVING ON TO “WHERE ARE YOU NOW….” WE SHOULD HAVE FURTHER INFORMATION TO ADD FROM PAUL BROZEL’S UPDATES ON OUTSTANDING QUALS STILL BEING DEVELOPED FOR QCF IE LANDBASED, CCLD, IT New QCF BTECs commence 1st September 2010 Learners registered before this date will remain on the current specifications. Transfers and withdrawals on current specifications are not affected (e.g. learner on a current NQF BTEC First Certificate can still transfer to a First Diploma on the current specifications, and vice-versa. The same applies for BTEC National Awards, Certificates and Diplomas). Refer to the ‘Re-titling of BTEC Firsts & Nationals’ handout for details. BTEC specifications are regularly updated to reflect National Occupational Standards, so this is not a new concept. The new specifications contain much more detailed guidance on delivery and assessment and support materials have been improved and extended. The principles of how BTECs are delivered and assessed have not been changed. © Dr. Charles Dublon

Certification by Coleg Powys
In order to release certification for Coleg Powys’s Learners we must: satisfy Edexcel that Quality Review and Development objectives have been met. This will involve an annual Quality Review and development visit from Edexcel. Ensure that Internal verification is in place and a Lead Internal verifier for each Principal subject area is accredited by Edexcel. Ensure standards verification is successful. Random samples will be taken by Edexcel once in 4 years, to cover All Principal Subject Areas.

What changes has Coleg Powys introduced?
BTEC Staff Development 2010 08/02/2018 What changes has Coleg Powys introduced? Standards of internal verification will be maintained within your Principal Subject Areas. Coleg Powys is putting into place a scheme to assure consistent standards of Internal Verification exist across all college campuses. It then will be up to course teams, led by the Lead Internal Verifier, to maintain these appropriate Standards. THESE ARE QUESTIONS CENTRES NEED TO HAVE BEEN PLANNING FOR, SINCE ATTENDING LAST QN MEETING OR RECEIVING RELEVANT INFORMATION, OR NEED TO START PLANNING FOR IF THIS IS NEW INFORMATION. MORE INFORMATION TO FOLLOW IN LEAD IV ACCREDITATION AND SV SECTIONS © Dr. Charles Dublon
