How Schools are Selected for NAEP?
Schools are selected by stratified-random sampling through the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) An accurate picture of student performance is obtained by administering NAEP to a sample of students who represent the student population of the nation as a whole and of individual states NAEP is given in a sample of New Jersey schools whose students reflect the varying demographics of our state
10
7 Steps of NAEP Sampling Identify all potential schools in the state of New Jersey Classify schools into groups (by student demographics). Within each group, order schools by student achievement. Develop an ordered list for sampling. Select the school sample. Confirm school eligibility. Within sampled schools, select students to participate in NAEP.
