4. What Gets Reported
Incidents that meet the criteria established by the NJ Department of Education.
Any situation involving behaviors that meet the definition of harassment, intimidation, or bullying as reported by the victim or observer.

9. Notes
~Eight different students received either an in/out-of-school suspension as a result of the 11 reportable incidents from
~One reportable incident resulted in a consequence categorized as “other.”
~Two Incidents were reported to the police.
~At the middle school, Saturday Detention is equivalent to an OSS, but all of the reported violations at the middle school were serious enough to warrant an OSS.

10. Definitions
Simple Assault - A person attempts to cause, or purposely, knowingly, or recklessly causes bodily injury to another.
Fight - Mutual engagement in a physical confrontation that may result in bodily injury to either party. Does not include verbal confrontations. All participants should be classified as offenders.
Harassment, Bullying, Intimidation, Threat*(HIBT) Any gesture, or written, verbal or physical act, or electronic or wireless communication that a reasonable person should know, under the circumstances, will have the effect of alarming (fear created by imminent danger) or harming (e.g., physically, emotionally) a student or staff member, or damaging their property; or b) has the effect of insulting or demeaning any student or group of students in such a way as to cause substantial disruption in, or substantial interference with, the orderly operation of the school.
Damage to Property - Purposely, knowingly, or recklessly destroying or defacing school, contracted, or personal property, thereby causing an economic loss due to repair or replacement. Serious incidental damage to property that occurs during an act of violence should be reported.

11. Conclusion/Miscellaneous
Reportable incidents have remained at a flat level the last three years.
Administration attends EVVRS training.
Both the HHS and WMS continue to utilize character education programs.
Note: Due to a computer glitch, (1) incident at the HHS was reported/recorded 4 times to the NJDOE. The statistics in this report will differ from what the newspaper reports in the Fall 2011.
