Handle of the spoon always points south. Emperor was thought to be the North Star. Chinese people were to face directly north when talking to the emperor. Helped align their buildings properly.

Made by accident when sulfur, charcoal, and potassium nitrate were combined. Bright sparks made fireworks. Later used in fighting. Paper It was thick and used as blankets, clothes, and shoes. Bamboo was cut and dried. Chips were steamed and ground into pulp. Pulp was lifted out of the water on a screen and dried into paper.

The first umbrella was made of oiled paper. The frames were made of mulberry or bamboo wood. People held it above there heads to protect themselves from sun and rain.
