Brief epilogue Del and Phyllis were the first same-sex couple to be married in San Francisco (February 12, 2004) after Mayor Gavin Newsome ordered the city to issue licenses to gay couples. Voided August 12, 2004 by California Supreme Court They were married again on June 16, 2008 when the California Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriages were legal. Del Martin died August 27, 2008 at age 87. Complications from an arm bone fracture SF Mayor Newsome ordered flags at City Hall be flown at half-staff in her honor
