For more information on STEPS, please contact: Dr. Deborah Besser Who?  Current 6th and 8th grade girls. Participants are selected randomly by lottery from all eligible applicants. WHAT IS STEPS? Building on the success of the STEPS programs hosted at the University of St. Thomas since 2000, five engineering day programs will be offered in the summer 2017, June Participants will engineer, make, connect with mentors, work in the engineering labs, unwind at recreation facilities, work with engineering faculty and build resources that they can access throughout their high school careers. Daily Schedule  8:00 am - 8:30 am Check in at University of St. Thomas 8:30 am - 6:00 pm Making and engineering, breakfast, lunch and dinner 6:00 pm - 6:30 pm Graduation ceremony with family at University of St. Thomas How to apply? Applications will be open from December 15 through February 15. STEPS will notify applicants of their acceptance or wait list status after March 15. Cost? STEPS is FREE! (There is no cost to you.)

With Mathematical Biology week day camp of mathematical modeling in biology and treatment of disease for girls gr 11,12 IMA-MathCEP Math Modeling Camp High school students who completed a year-long course in single variable calculus by the end of the school year use their mathematical skills to analyze real-world situations in week Summer Computer Academy week-long day camp teaches the foundations of computer programming using python. lectures on the fundamental programming concepts, programming language, and hands-on experience in a computer lab (develop programs for small robots, image processing, etc) Audience: male students grades 6–12, from underrepresented minorities. For detailed program information, including dates, cost, and registration, please visit the program website. Summer Science Day Camp Program Highlights Every camper will make and take home his or her own unique project. Campers have access to a large variety of materials and tools for project building. There is a very high ratio of staff to students (usually a 1:6 ratio). Campers have opportunities to work in small collaborative groups & individually. Campers will exercise their creative thinking skills every day. Students will be trained to confidently work with a number of different tools. Campers are a part of community of like minded students. Summer camps at empower students to take control of their environment. Curriculum focused on process of invention and problem solving. Think It, Make It, Improve It, Show It! Summer Camp is a week-long program where students design and build their own inventions, practice creative thinking skills, make magic tricks, and play games.  Camps run from June through August and are designed for students entering grades 4 through 9.

15 High Tech Kids - FIRST Inspire kids to BUILD confidence, CREATE opportunities and THRIVE in the 21st century. JuniorFIRST® LEGO® League, FIRST® LEGO® League and FIRST®  Tech Challenge Programs train, teach and empower student teams, coaches and volunteers.  1800 volunteers offer high energy, fun, team-based programs and competitions Kids learn how to work together, solve real-world problems and become leaders. "During the decade, professional, scientific, and technical service jobs will grow by an estimated 34%.“ ~U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics,   Alumni have gone on to pursue STEM careers in science, technology, engineering and math. Help our kids learn to be engaged and educated citizens to make responsible, informed decisions that affect us, our society and our environment; we must understand science and math.      High Tech Kids is committed to introducing the next generation of engineers, scientists, computer programmers, technicians, policy makers and project managers to the challenge and promise of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).

16 FIRST LEGO League Grades 4-9 : international robotics program for 200,000 kids in 63 countries.  Teams collaborate to build and program an autonomous robot to score points on a thematic playing surface (the Robot Game) and create an innovative solution to a problem correlated to the yearly theme (the Project), all while guided by the FLL Core Values. The Challenge - What a team does… Each year the details of the yearly Challenge are released in August. Teams typically meet twice a week to fulfill three criteria to be used in judging at regional events.

17 FIRST® Tech Challenge (FTC) is a robotics competition targeted toward middle and high school-aged students (7-12 grade) challenged to design, build, and program a robot to play a floor game against other teams’ creations FIRST ® Robotics Competition High school-aged teams (grades 9-12) compete head to head on a special playing field with robots they have designed, built, and programmed Qualifying Tournaments and State Championships occur from October through March, and the World Championship is held in April.

18 The MN Renewable Energy Challenge (REC) encourages students to explore the exciting world of  wind and solar power. REC Teams design and build small wind turbines with the goal of creating something both efficient and elegant. Teams will typically meet once or twice per week for 6-8 weeks. Teams have 3-10 participants from grades 4-12th. Teams can be a mix of grades & ages
