Introduction Brief on APUA
APUA stands for the Association of Power Utilities of Africa. It is also known in French as ASEA (Association des Sociétés d’Electricité d’Afrique). An international non-profit organisation created in 1970 by African Power Utilities. The headquaters are in Abidjan Côte d’Ivoire. Formerly known as UPDEA (Union of Producers. Transporters and Distributors of Electric Power in Africa), fonding member of MEDELEC. The mission of APUA is: To bring together African power utilities and stakeholders towards making power more accessible, affordable and reliable for the African people. Introduction, cont’d APUA is one of the specialized institutions of the African Union Commission (AUC). APUA is permanent member of the Executive Council of the African Energy Commission AFREC. APUA is permanent member of the Executive Committee and the Management Committee of the African Electrotechnical Standardisation Commission (AFSEC). APUA has a privileged partnership with the African Development Bank, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the New Partnership for Africa Development (NEPAD), etc. As the result of adoption of its Strategic Action Plan in 2012, APUA initiated a flagship project of mutualized capacity building program: ANCEE An answer 24th MEDELEC ANNUAL CONFERENCE_ISTANBUL 2017

The ANCEE’s Main Purpose
To improve the performance of the electricity sector and intensify regional trade by strengthening the technical and managerial skills of power utilities’ personnel at all levels. An answer 24th MEDELEC ANNUAL CONFERENCE_ISTANBUL 2017

ANCEE Fact Sheet Created December 12, 2013 at the 47th APUA General Assembly Over 25.9 millions Euros in funding from AfDB, AFD and Power Sector 9500 trainees over 3 years, 33% women 3900 grants giving high priority to fragile states, training in Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Climate Change 3.4 millions Euros in grants for capacity building, rehabilitation and expansion projects in Centers of Excellence and Training Centers
