Interpretation of Theme Artistic Merit/ Creativity
Judging Sample Judging Rubric Interpretation of Theme How closely the piece relates to the theme, based on the artwork itself and the artist statement 20 pts Artistic Merit/ Creativity How creative and original the piece is in its conception of the theme and its presentation 10 pts Mastery of Medium The level of skill demonstrated in the basic principles/techniques of the arts area Reflections Chairs do NOT judge entries. Blind judging Interpretation of Theme most important. Also note: Artist Statement does weigh in. For example, a couple of years ago the theme was “Together We Can..” there was a photograph of the top of AT&T Park, SF Giants Ballpark. Looking at the photo one would not understand how it relates. The artist statement mentions that the SF Giants was a group of misfits who together won the National Title in the World Series. Allow at least 2 weeks for judges. Photography and Visual Arts judging vary in time all depending on how you set up judging. Look to high school teacher, graduate students, local dance teachers 2017 IUCPTA Reflections Spring Workshop
