1 BELLWORK: February 13th Today we are going to begin our study of “revolutionary war” with a case study of the Vietnam War. To begin, read “The Global Context” section on page 57. After WWII, an “ideological-based world order grew more likely.” What does this mean? How did this impact the U.S.? How did instability post-WWII impact the outbreak of war? Based on what you know about French rule in Algeria, make a prediction  How would the French rule Indo-china? THINKER: What makes a war “revolutionary?” Based on the other types of warfare we’ve studied this unit, are there other classifications you would give the Vietnam War?

2 The Vietnam War: Revolutionary War in Indo-China
A Revolutionary War Case Study You already know a lot about Vietnam….. Do you remember???

3 KPQ Brainstorm Strategy
This strategy is designed to encourage you to brainstorm facts you already know and use those facts to make predictions. It will also encourage you to brainstorm questions which may help guide your study of the topic. Let’s do an example together! (Q3 on bellwork!)

4 (What do you already know?)
KPQ Brainstorm KNOW (What do you already know?) PREDICT (Based on what you know, what could you predict will happen? Make connections!) QUESTION (What questions remain? Clarifications? What do you want to learn more about? What are you confused about?)

5 KPQ Brainstorm Strategy
To start: You are going to independently reflect on what you already know! As you brainstorm, write each concept on a post-it. Focus on the causes of the Vietnam War! How can these be categorized? What do you remember from your lit novel? What do you remember from peer presentations? (Vocab, events, people, problems, etc.) Next: Work in a group of three to categorize these causes in the “K” column. You can add more if you need! Then: Based on what you remember and discussed as a group, make some predictions. What else caused the Vietnam War? Think in terms of French Rule, post-WWII decolonization, the Cold War context, guerrilla movements, etc. Finally: What is left unanswered? What do you want to know more about? What needs to be clarified? What do you not understand? There are no right or wrong answers – just make sure you can explain your thought process. Work as a group!

6 HOMEWORK: Due Tuesday! Read/annotate the causes of the Vietnam War: pages (will review Friday) Finish your 20th Century leader love poem… requirements???
