Living Oneness James A. Littles, Jr., Ph.D.
2
Oneness and Fellowship
Living as Spirit filled people (Acts 2:42): Apostles Doctrine Fellowship Breaking of Bread Prayers Share according to needs
3
Commanded Love Required love is paradoxical or oxymoronic for our world. John 13:34-35 “A new commandment I give unto you, that you love one another; as I loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”
4
Commanded Love Based on modeled love
Becomes sign of discipleship for the world Jesus’ day was a culture of honor and shame. Identity was based on gender, geography, and genealogy. People protected their own honor while trying to bring same to others
5
Radical Jesus Christ became shame to give us honor with Him!
He then called us to model transformed nature in the world. A hard pill to swallow: Luke 17:3-5 Rebuke Repent Forgive
6
Real Oneness Fellowship
More than just relating … And more than believing the same thing. Fellowship (or communion) is sharing and participating in the lives of others
7
Four Movement of Communion
Jesus took Jesus blessed/gave thanks Jesus broke Jesus gave/shared Remember this all took place when there was Judas’ betrayal (Luke 22:21) and fighting over position (24)
8
‘Communion’ Examples Feeding of the 5,000 His own body and blood
Repeated by Paul in Acts 27:35 We share in Christ.
9
Fellowship Shares In… The Spirit (Phil. 2:1-4)
Privileges of inheritance (Ro. 11:17) Christ’s suffering (Phil. 3:10) Suffering of others (Phil. 4:11-14) Building confidence (Phil. 1:3-6) Ro 11: Partakers of root and fatness of olive tree. We are unnatural -- were grafted in Phil 3: Know him, the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death Phil 4: Learn to be content, do all things through Christ which strengthens, “You did well that you did communicate with my afflictions” (others had abandoned Paul) Phil 1:3-6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it unto the day of Christ.

Fellowship Leads to Holiness
I John 1:3, 6-10 A direct relationship exists between fellowship with God and fellowship with others. Fellowship is a part of walking in the light. Fellowship is linked to “the blood of Jesus Christ his Son [which] cleanseth us from all sin.” Grace works through parts of the body.
11
Oneness Mission Love makes us known in the world.
Fellowship is a part of the work of reconciliation (II Cor. 5:17-21) Fellowship with one another leads to hospitality with the world. Not entertainment Jesus and Zacchaeus (Lu. 19:7) Jesus on Emmaus’ Road (Lu. 24:29)
12
Hospitality Required Of saints (Ro 12:13) Of bishops (I Tim. 3:2)
Of godly widows (I Tim. 5:10) Of the whole church! (Hebrews 13:2) “Use hospitality one to another without grudging.” (I Pt. 4:9).
