Do Trees grow in the Winter? Mr. K 8.2
Science Fair Project Do Trees grow in the Winter? Mr. K 8.2
2
Statement of the Problem
Do trees stop growing in the winter?
3
We wanted to know if our school ‘s Black Oak tree grows in the winter?
Project Overview We wanted to know if our school ‘s Black Oak tree grows in the winter?

Research BLACK OAK RESEARCH:
In our research we found out that a number of things about our tree. First, we found out that the tree never stops growing until it becomes diseased, or weakened by climate change. An Oak tree can grow up to 65 years or older. Second,we thought because the tree loses its leaves in the winter, it couldn’t get energy from the sun so it wouldn’t grow. But we found out that the tree stores food that it uses during the winter and that the sap of the tree is always flowing like blood feeding the tree what it needs to live and grow. Finally, we discovered that the Black Oaks are a very strong and hardy tree, and if we take good care of it it will keep growing for a long time.

Variables Controlled variables: We measured in the same spot every time for the fall and winter Independent variable: We checked growth at three points Dependent variable: The measure of change observed at each point Point A-no change Point B- 35cm more growth occurred. Point C-45cm growth occuetted
6
Hypothesis We thought that the Oak Tree went to sleep over the winter. For that reason we believed our school tree did not grow.
7
Materials Tape measure 162cm Habitat lab booklet
8
Procedure List all of the steps used in completing your experiment.
Remember to number your steps. Add photos of your experiments.
9
Data/Observations WE DECIDEDTO MEASURE OUR TREE AT THREE DIFFERENT POINTS IN THE FALL AND IN THE WINTER POINT A-CIRCUMFERENCE POINT B-PIMARY BRANCH POINTC-SECONDARY BRANCH
10
Conclusion Type a brief summary here of what you discovered based on the results of your experiments. You need to indicate whether or not the data supports the hypothesis and explain why or why not.
