It’s the law! But more importantly… It is consistent with the University’s mission that students with talents and ability have the opportunity to develop their academic, personal, and professional potential.

What We Do Coordinate reasonable accommodations and support services
Accommodations are adjustments and services that level the playing field and facilitate equal access Examples include exam modifications, note-taking services, sign-language interpreting services

What We Do Support the full participation of students with disabilities in all aspects of University life Housing Assistive Technology Library Access Co-curricular Activities University events and programs

What We Do DS supports students with disabilities by assisting them to develop compensatory and academic skills Individual sessions with our Learning Specialist for students registered with DS: Time management Exam preparation Study skills Reading, note-taking, writing for your unique graduate curriculum Workshops to assist students in developing academic skills DS also assists students with temporary injuries

Who We Work With 1700+ students per academic year
Types of disabilities: physical, hearing, visual, chronic medical conditions, psychological, ADHD, and learning Most have invisible disabilities that may involve difficulties with information processing, reading, learning, sustaining attention, and mental health challenges.

Who We Are Program Staff: Licensed Social Workers Disability Specialists Certified Rehabilitation Counselors Learning Specialists Assistive Technology Specialist Educators Liaisons in each school or graduate program

How We Work Students submit: Registration Form
Documentation of their disability Disability Services Determines if the student qualifies as a person with a disability Makes recommendations for reasonable accommodations based on disability status and program requirements Coordinates and implements accommodations
