1 AOSEC Principal’s Event 2016
30th September 2016

2 What is NCS? A unique part-residential youth programme open to all 16 and17 year olds Helps build skills for work and life plus 30 hours committed to a local community project Students work in mixed teams based on their postcode 275,000 young people have already taken part and the programme is growing each year Our young people are coming of age in a country that is becoming more divided and is experiencing declining levels of social trust. Young people who would be unlikely to mix under normal circumstances come together on NCS, sharing experiences regardless of their family income, background or ethnicity. We want NCS to become a rite of passage for all young people, with an ambition to support one million NCS participants in their transition to adulthood by 2020.

3 What do we stand for? NCS exists to tackle 3 key social challenges:
Social mobility Equipping young people with essential skills for work and life Social cohesion Building stronger, more integrated communities Social engagement Supporting communities and the democratic process Confidential

4 Over 200,000 young people have taken part in NCS so far
April 2016

5_84 113_84 115_84 116_84 118_84 119_84 How schools can support To ensure that all your students have an opportunity to take part, we ask for college support in these areas: Inviting the local NCS provider to promote NCS to your 16 and 17 year old students. This could be in the form of an assembly or equivalent, with follow up events such as careers evenings or lunchtime stalls. NCS providers will work closely with colleges to plan events that work best for those settings and their students. Communicating to parents/guardians to advocate NCS and encourage them to sign up their son/daughter. Nominating a named NCS link teacher who can liaise with NCS providers.
