God’s Comfort and Healing for Us and Our Community St. Peter Worship at Key to Life Saturday, March 25th

18 Be Still My Soul CW #415 Text: Catharina A. von Schlegel, 1697-1752
Setting: FINLANDIA Tune: Jean J. C. Sibelius, , adapt.

19 Verse 1: Be still, my soul; the Lord is on your side, Bear patiently the cross of grief or pain; Leave to your God to order and provide;

20 Verse 1: In ev’ry change he faithful will remain. Be still, my soul; your best, your heav’nly friend. Through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.

21 Verse 2: Be still, my soul; your God will undertake To guide the future as he has the past Your hope, your confidence, let nothing shake;

22 Verse 2: All now mysterious shall be bright at last. Be still, my soul; the waves and winds still know His voice who ruled them while he lived below.

23 Verse 3: Be still, my soul, though dearest friends depart And all is darkened in the vale of tears; Then you will better know his love, his heart,

24 Verse 3: Who comes to soothe your sorrows and your fears. Be still, my soul; your Jesus can repay From his own fullness all he takes away.

25 Verse 4 (Please Rise): Be still, my soul; the hour is hast’ning on When we shall be forever with the Lord, When disappointment, grief, and fear are gone.

26 Verse 4: Sorrow forgot, love’s purest joys restored. Be still, my soul; when change and tears are past, All safe and blessed we shall meet at last.

27 Invocation Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit All: Amen.

28 Invocation Pastor: We have come together to seek God’s comfort in our sorrow and to rejoice in his never failing promises. Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who said, “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.”

29 Invocation Pastor: Let us pray. Lord Jesus, you wept at the grave of your friend Lazarus, and you consoled Mary and Martha in their distress. Draw near to us who are saddened by the tragic events of this past week in our community. Calm our troubled hearts.

30 Invocation Pastor: Dispel our doubts and fears through your powerful Word. In your rising from the dead, you conquered death and opened the gates to eternal life. Lead us through this difficult earthly life until at last we are united with you and all your saints in glory everlasting.

31 Invocation All: Amen.

32 Resurrection Comfort Pastor: Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. The apostle Paul writes to the Romans:

33 Resurrection Comfort Pastor: “The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Jesus gives us this comfort: “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.”

34 Resurrection Comfort Pastor: Death has been swallowed up in victory! Thanks be to God! All: He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

35 Resurrection Comfort Pastor: When Christ, who is our life, appears,
All: Then we also will appear with him in glory.

36 Resurrection Comfort Pastor: We will be before the throne of God
All: And serve him day and night in his temple.

37 Resurrection Comfort Pastor: Never again will we hunger;
All: Never again will we thirst.

38 Resurrection Comfort Pastor: For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be our shepherd; he will lead us to springs of living water. All: And God will wipe away every tear from our eyes.

39 (The pastor says the Prayer of the Day.)
Pastor: Let us pray. (The pastor says the Prayer of the Day.) All: Amen.

40 God’s Word to His People
Nehemiah 1:4-11a Nehemiah’s prayer in a time of great sorrow and crisis

41 Psalm #31 All ♫ Refrain:

42 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge;
deliver me in your righteousness. Be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me.

43 Into your hands I commit my spirit;
redeem me, O LORD, the God of truth.

44 Psalm #31 All ♫ Refrain:

45 My times are in your hands;
save me in your unfailing love. How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you.

46 You heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help.

47 Glory be to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

48 Psalm #31 All ♫ Refrain:

49 God’s Word to His People
2 Corinthians 1:3-7 The God of all comfort

50 Verse of the Day All: God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1

51 God’s Word to His People
Luke 12:22-34 Do not worry; do not be afraid, little flock

52 First Article of the Apostles’ Creed
Confession of Faith First Article of the Apostles’ Creed

53 All: I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
What does this mean?

54 All: I believe that God created me and all that exists, that he gave me my body and soul, eyes, ears, and all my members, my mind and all my abilities.

55 All: And I believe that God still preserves me by richly and daily providing clothing and shoes, food and drink, property and home, spouse and children, land, cattle, and all I own, and all I need to keep my body and life.

56 All: God also preserves me by defending me against all danger, guarding and protecting me from all evil. All this God does only because he is my good and merciful Father in heaven, and not because I have earned or deserved it.

57 All: For all this I ought to thank and praise, to serve and obey him.
This is most certainly true.
