Using the principles of design….Patterns, balance, and Repetition
Tessellations Using the principles of design….Patterns, balance, and Repetition
2
What are the principles of design
They are balance, pattern, emphasis, rhythm, unity, movement, variety and proportion They help us effectively organize our paper! This allows us to communicate visually!
3
What are the elements of art
Line, shapes, color, texture, space, form and value. We use them to describe art and to create our “space”
4
What are tessellations
A tessellation is created when a shape is repeated over and over again covering a plane without any gaps or overlaps
5
a tessellation of triangles
a tessellation of squares a tessellation of hexagons
6
Who made them and why? Tessellations involve the use of mathematical skills that help us organize our area (in our case paper) Tessellations have been used for different reasons… Egyptians-patterns for tiling Modern artists-type of art
7
Some examples of tessellations
12
Now how do you make one? You must make a grid on a piece of paper
5th grade: squares : Slice method 6th grade: Slice method 7th grade: Radial design/Gap method 8th grade: Radial design/gap method
