5 My residence permit expires. What may happen next?

6 Search year highly educated persons
Wich groups may apply the search year highly educated persons? Bachelor (HBO) en Master (WO) students graduated from a Dutch higher educational institution (accredited courses); PhD graduates of a Dutch University (Doctor's degree); Has completed a postgraduate course in the Netherlands; Has completed scientific research (under the directive 2005/71/EC or labor as highly skilled migrant); Has completed training in the framework of specific cultural policy, development cooperation policy or an Erasmus Mundus Masters Course; Has completed Master's degree or postgraduate training abroad or is promoted to a foreign top 200-University; Starting entrepreneurs (start-ups) with a residence permit as a self-employed person who are not advancing in the self-employed scheme and satisfying the search year conditions. 7 Advantages Search year for highly educated persons
For all high-skilled migrants applies that graduation, or completion of the scientific research may have taken place up to three years prior to the application. The aim is to find a job as a highly skilled migrant. The search year permit can be requested several times. As a holder of a residence permit ‘Orientation year for highly educated persons’ you are allowed to work without any restrictions and without a work permit. Note The search year may not be granted again if the non-EU national has been granted a search year permit earlier on the basis of the same training or research (at unaltered conditions). In conclusion, after any other study or any other research a new search year may be granted again. Immigratie- en Naturalisatiedienst 25/10/2016

8 Conditions & Characteristics Search Year Highly Educated Persons
All groups are allowed to apply for the search year for highly educated persons when graduation, promotion or completion of the scientific research may have taken place up to three years preceding the application; Residence permit is valid for one year (and cannot be extended); Within the search year: free to every to seek any job without a work permit (Twv); For Master students or postdoctorate students graduated abroad or PhD’s to a foreign top 200 University a minimum score of 6.0 (International Language System) or similar English level or knowledge of Dutch language is required (no points system); The search year permit can be requested multiple times, for example after a Bachelor ànd a Master's degree or a Master ànd a Doctor’s-degree; Reduced salary criterion applies when advancing in the highly skilled migrant scheme; A highly skilled migrant permit can be requested from abroad (if a job is found) without first requesting a search year permit, where the reduced salary criterion from the highly skilled migrant scheme applies. 9 Who is eligible for permanent residency in the Netherlands?
Conditions for permanent residency: Having lawfully lived in the Netherlands for an uninterrupted period of at least 5 years and had a valid residence permit for a non-temporary purpose of stay Having sufficient and long-term means of support Not constituting a risk to public order or national security By having completed successfully a civic integration course at A2 level (able to read, write, speak and understand Dutch) or attained another diploma Immigratie- en Naturalisatiedienst 25/10/2016

11 Work as a highly skilled migrant
Conditions You earn a gross income that meets the highly migrant criteria Income requirement (Jan. 2016)* Highly skilled migrants from the age of 30: € 4.240,- Highly skilled migrants younger than 30: € 3.108,- Persons graduated/promoted in the Netherlands: € 2.228,- (until 1 year after graduation during the search year) Note: Your employer in the Netherlands should have been admitted to the highly skilled migrant scheme. No work permit required. *) gross salary per month, excluding 8% holiday pay Immigratie- en Naturalisatiedienst 25/10/2016

12 Paid employment Conditions:
You have suficient and long-term means of support according to the Minimum Wage and Minimum Holiday Allowance Act. Currently € 1.524,60 gross per month* excl. 8% holiday pay (€ 351,85 per week) Submitting a job contract and salary information from a Dutch employer or Dutch branch of a foreign company Work permit: the application for a single permit must comply with the criteria for each category as prescribed in the Foreign Nationals Employment Act (Wav) Note 1: In general a work permit will only be issued by UWV if there are no suitable employees available with the nationality of one of the member states of the EU Note 2: The employer does not have to be a recognized sponsor *As from Immigratie- en Naturalisatiedienst 25/10/2016

13 Work on a self-employed basis
including work as a freelancer General conditions: Submitting a business plan showing the business or the profession are vital for the Dutch economy, - You have sufficient and long-term means of support - The IND will ask advice from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation (this advice will be followed by the IND: the advice is either positive for granting a residence permit or negative for refusing a residence permit) - For Start-ups: to set up an innovative business with the aid of a facilitator; after one year possibility to apply for a regular self-employed residence permit Immigratie- en Naturalisatiedienst 25/10/2016

14 Application procedure
Who applies for a residence permit of for a change of purpose of stay and how?
